shield connection of an insert cable?

I'm soldering again...

Dayner manual:
"The screen of any audio connection should be connected at one end only to avoid earth loops and high frequency crosstalk. And as a general rule this should be on the signal source end". ..

What about a channel insert cable going to a patch. Stereo teleplug 1/4" with both send and return at the console end (0 dB) and two monos at the patch. Can't find anything about this.

Any suggestions? How should I do at the mono ends?......

.....How should solder the cable?

I'm kinda confused about what the manual says. Don't make sense to me..but maybe I read it wrong.

Inserts are wired as follows.

Single 1/4" TRS cable

T=send positive
R=return positive
S=mutual ground

I'd say:

TRS (a) with T:send, R: return, S: ground
to
TRS (in) & (out): connect the signal end from (a) to the Tip of (in) and (out) and connect the ground from (a) to the Ring of (in) and (out)

edit: schematical:
T(a) to T(in)
R(a) to T(out)
S(a) to R(in) and to R(out)
S(in) and S(out): unconnected at console's side

Hope this is true

The sheild connection can only be left off at one end of the cable if it is not part of the signal circuit. This applies to balanced lines. In the case of unbalanced lines like insert circuits that use one jack for send and return, the sheild will be required to complete the signal circuit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!!
I said just "Dayner" in my post... It's the D&R Dayner mixing console I'm soldering for.

This "0 dB" level the manual talks about.. Is that the common words for an insert connection? I'm kind of confused about this.

Could it be the way that you do not talk about levels (+4/-10) at all with an insert?

In many consoles, the internal operating level is 4 or 6 dB lower than +4dBu. This is done to gain a little extra headroom within the console audio path. This is why the insert operating level is lower than standard line level, in your case 4dB below +4dBu = 0dBu. Other consoles may have a -2dBu insert operating level, ie 6dB below +4dBu.

Some older consoles ran even lower than this, which is why some where so noisy, it's a trade off against headroom and noise.

Thanks again,
Didn't know that.

I did my inserts like this:

Used a "stereo" cable with two signals, shield and this other metal string (Mogami)

I connected both the shield and the "string" to ground at the console end. The signal cords were connected to the send and the return of the stereo plug.

At the patch and mono plugs end I put the shield to the cable whish is return at the console end (send from the patch) and used the "not so much shield string" as the ground for the other, input to the patch/effect unit.

I used a 24 ch "multi cable" or whatever it's called in English.

I think this is not easy stuff to get into..but important.
