Thread Starter | The "New" oktava 012 and dorsey mod...
Hey I have a quick simple question, I had an old pair of oktava 012's which I dorsey modded. I found someone who wants to buy them off me for basically the same cost as a new pair, I am thinking of selling him my modded mics (crappy old gray case and such) and picking up a new pair with the money breaking even. Do the new ones being sold from oktavausa and other suppliers still benefit from the dorsey mod? I remember hearing that they pretty much fixed quality control and already ship them out with the parts that dorsey suggested. True / False? If they ship pretty much the same quality as the ones I am selling I'd be happy because than I get equal mics but nice new ones |

The new ones I have seen still use noisy transistors. But the PCB looks neater, not to mention the overall machining. The look almost as good as the chinese fakes now... I can see two options how Oktava got so much better: 1. Have they invested in new tools? Oktava Director once told me he needed 500.000 USD to buy new tooling to be able to improve quality. Maybe they got hold of some investors? 2. Did they outsource some or all of the machining/manufacturing? Maybe to China even? ![]() Just kidding, of course they didn't! |
