Thread Starter | Dumb question about ADAT lightpipe.
Hey guys, Say you want to transfer 8 tracks digitally via lightpipe, but you don't want the clocks of the sending and receiving units to match up, but of course you want the tracks to stay synced to themselves, can you do this? The reason for this is: I have a song that needs to be sped and pitched up by 80 cents. The only way that I know to make it do this is to transfer it to something else pitched up 80 cents while the receiving unit is recording at the standard speed. So, for lightpipe, are the clocks syced, or can you just start one, and then start the other with one actually playing at a faster speed? |

Pretty sure the lightpipe is clocked by the host. Have you thought about sample rate converting the files to a slightly lower rate then playing them back at the original sample rate?

Wait, There's a spot on the HD24 where you can specify that you want it to use it's own internal clock, wich it normally does anyway, but you can also specify that you want to clock it via the BNC clock connection or thru the optical cable, which doesn't matter because I want it running on it's own clock. ANyway why can't I specify that the protools interface not be clocked to the HD24 so the two seperate clocks are operating at their own individual speeds? That's not gonna work? (I would just try it, but I need to schedule a session at school, and have the backup trs to XLR cables available if another a>d then d>a converstion is necessary. etc. sorry I'm blabbing.) P.S What kind of sample rate conversion would up the speed and pitch by 80 cents? The song is at 88.2 right now. I suppose I could just try converting it to 96 and see how it sounds? |
