Question What to do about not hearing back from emply.

My question is what to do when a potential employer, specifically a public radio station in Denver, keeps blowing you off after 1 1/2 months of phone calls, emails and even a visit to the office to drop off your resume and attempt to talk to the people.... and lets assume I have the experience to suit the unpaid internship I have been asking about, or the studio tour, or just talking to the senior engineer.

What could I say, do or not do? As engineers, what's your perspective on post-college age youngens trying to get a hold of you for work? What did I miss here?

As a college graduate and perpetual seeker of new and additional work opportunities, I can provide you with the following information:

For every 10 resumes, phone calls, drop-ins, or other contacts you make, you'll be lucky if you hear back from 1 (yes, one) of those people/companies. I have been doing live sound/corporate A/V for about 6 years, and this has been my experience in this business. Not to mention, friends of mine that are not in the business experience the same thing in their respective lines of work.

Bottom line: There are a shitload of candidates out there, and there may be reasons why someone with less experience and/or knowledge is picked over you. You also cannot tell how motivated the company is to actually hire someone. Just because management says "oh yea, I think we need somebody to hump copiers from floor to floor and organize our rubber bands" doesn't mean that the people who actually DO the hiring are going to jump on that task. I've seen resumes sit on company owners desks for YEARS, and who knows if that person will ever get a call. I've recieved a call from a potential employer 2 years after submitting a resume!

So my point is, there is no definates when being hired for anything. Try hard, be persistent, but don't bug them. If you get it great... if not, move on.

I got the impression there are more people than places, thanks to SAE and all... but, it has got a lot to do with luck, a lot.
