I'm in for the kit list

Tim - Please add me to the summing mixer kit list. Whatever it turns into. Whatever it costs. I'm not quite certain how to PM you. Please post your e-mail address if you can do that on the forum here. Or I'll send an e-mail to Buzz in a day or two. Dana Walcott. Reading, MA 01867 USA.

Hi Tim! how many we are on the list already?

I think this should be simple enough to make for the ordinary Joe.
Incorporating an aux send probably doubles the work, + all the other sh*t, mutes, solos, inserts... This will take me a year to build, haha... Keep it simple. Level and pan is enough for me.
Get yourself a patch bay.

agreed, an aux send is an unnecessary complication for what i'd be using for (simple analog summing for use with my DAW). i'm not looking for a full blown console here, i just want to build a very simple summing mixer. just my 2 cents.

I only have 11 people expressing an interest so far. In reality we need to hit the 30 mark for it to be viable.

And to explain again, the intention is build a summing box - not a console. 16 inputs each with switching to allow for assignment to LEFT, RIGHT or BOTH. The output will have pots to allow you to trim LEFT and RIGHT. We could add a monitor output with volume control, and perhaps a 2 track return with very little added expense.

Cheers
Tim.

Has it been decided whether it'd be an entirely passive design or not? Either way, Inserts points on the input channels would be a selling point for me, also having an insert point on the 2out would be a key to making it really functional+ the parallel stereo outputs that Amiel mentioned too...

With these gizmos you dont NEED built in inserts points.

patch to go through your outboard BEFORE the device - patch from the device to a compressor before your mixdown recorder.. its that simple.

IMHO you are asking for at least - 18 redundant i/o's here - that will just raise the price and complicate it's design needlessly.

so what's the verdict?

How about passive summing into a gain stage for output drive. Nice and simple.

I'm very interested, but without a ballpark dollar figure, I can't commit. What range are we talking here?

I am very interested too.
But to commit I'll need to know the ballpark figure, as well. The simple, but functional design proposed by Tim will be more than fine with me.

For sure I won't be looking to come out from this with a full-blown rack format console, as some of the suggestions above imply
