No rule book for ground lift switches. Whichever position stops the buzz/hum is the correct position.

ha , funny!
my assumption was the ground lift switch would help with some of the build up of hum that i'm experiencing, but yes it does sound better without it on.

Could it be.....

It could be possible that the swich is wired backwards. Let face it, sometimes the gear we buy is initially assembled by, uhhh, let's just say less than skilled workers.

Easy to check. With the unit unplugged, check ground (pin 1 on XLR and Shield on TRS) and see if you have continuity (use a multimeter) between input and output. Switch your ground lift from one postion to another. When the meter "beeps", that's when the ground lift is not engaged.

Is something that the DI is connected to on another power circuit? If so, it could just be a potential difference between circuit A and circuit B causing the buzz, not a ground loop.

answer: it is working perfectly.

a buzzing sound is usually indicative of no ground refernece. a humming sound is indicative of multiple ground references. so, if you are having a hum, and you ground lift at this point and you get buzz, this is probably not the point of the problem. dont lift the ground at this point, go somewhere else to find the multiple grounds causing the hum. remember, this could be the gtr itself, or anywhere between the gtr and the speakers you hear the hum/buzz in.
