Not to derail the photos, but can anyone quickly answer the 512 b/c differences that equate to the tonal change?

thanks,

Do you mean MOSFET steroids?

No, it's fair tube amp, uses Russian military GU-50 (stolen from enemy during WW-II, Telefunken LS-50) output tubes.

Prototypes of amps on steroids will be ready in July, I am going to test them on campground on Russian music festival. There will be pair of 400W/Channel monoblocks.

Looks nice, what mic is it?

Heres a couple i built recently:

Theyre Ioaudio Mk7 transformers/pcbs inside of some cheap chinese mic bodies incase you are wondering. The capsule is Dale Ulan m7 "clones" (not really clones since they use mylar film for the diaphragm)

Extremely warm and thick sound. Like the total opposite of what chinese mics sound like stock.

Im still experimenting with some details, but it sounds very promising.

Just ordered some Paper in oil capacitors to try on the output.

Atm i have some polypropylene coupling capacitors that sound good, but im looking to see if i can further improve them.

I might have to change the tube in one of them though, as its a bit noisy.

A first-time DIY'er built this 2-ch preamp unit using FiveFish Studios kits... then sent me his photos.

OK, here we go, from left to right:

- full view
- left side with transformers
- right side, I guess this is where the A/D converter resides
- right side, close view on what I think is the Converter Chip

Here is the summing mixer i built after Tim farrant schematic. It does not work. Don't know how to find mistakes, or make measurements.

The Neve 1073DPA/DPD doesn't sound bad at all, unless you're expecting a transformer sound from the line in?

In fact I like it very much and so do my clients....... it's a great Preamp!

They sure do sound good! The guts of my DRS look a bit different (see second post on page 1 of this thread), wonder if the different layout has any effect on the sound...

Microphone array matrix amplifier

Here is my new microphone array matrix breadboard.
Super quiet PS, gyrator-loaded electret capsules, discrete JFET preamps, optical compressor-limiter with multi-color display, low distortion dual opamp matrix, transformer balanced outputs. Most probably I will give it away through Elektor magazine.

Stay tuned!

Testing the prototype. All LEDs are bright that means heavy compression, but the sound is still clean (no clipping).

If you want to hear this microphone through my tube amps and my line array speakers, here is the file from Russian bard festival where I am singing. The record was made by camera so everything is heard, including power generator in the forest. Sometimes when I yell aloud you can see LEDs flashing (in front of the red box on the stage) that means an optical compressor is compressing wildly to avoid clipping.
The file is 60 megabytes in size!
