'Sticky' situation with a VU meter

I have a Urei LA-4 that works fine except for one wee problem: the meter's pointer will not go all the way up to '0'. I use the meter in GR mode. The pointer once did, and I had/have everything inside tweaked correctly. The pointer acts as though it hits a stop or barrier of some kind at around -1 or -2. Gain reducton greater that this can still be read on the meter, however. When the unit is switched off, the pointer will drop back to it's normal resting position the same as my other LA-4's meter does. I haven't attempted to disassemble the meter to try and suss this out, in fear of wreaking permanent damage. If this can be fixed (short of out-and-out replacement of the meter) I'd like to know how others here have solved this problem. (I replaced the meter on a blackface 1176LN about a decade ago, so I well know how expensive a replacement would be!) Thanks in advance!
