Switch box for audio? I need to buy or build a switch box to switch the inputs and outputs of 2 8-track analog machines so i can bounce between them. at the moment this is all done on my patch bay, but it's a little time-consuming - i'd prefer just to flick a couple of switches and leave it all plugged in. is there anything cheap on the market, or even a kit or a circuit board design that i could get?

Hi you can get printer switch boxes pretty cheap. They switch all 25 pins of a D sub and do the job well. You can even buy premade XLR - Dsub cables made up quite cheaply (Tascam pinout). The inside of those boxes is pretty horrendous all wires tend to be the same colour but it is possible to rewire it if you get the urge to use connectors other than D subs. Matt S

i've decided to build one out of two of those switchboxes, an old radio(for the case) and 48 jack sockets. this way i can keep my looms the way they are and wire it up like it is on my patch bay just now. cheers for the help, i'll post a picture when i'm done!

uh oh - the company i ordered the switchboxes from has found out that not only do they not really have them in stock, they also don't make them anymore. What's the name of the switch component in these? I don't need the box or the d-subs, i just need to switch between 2 sets of 16 wires with one wrist action and i'll wire up and box it myself.

Hi You could go for the 9 pin D changeover boxes or the 15 pin VGA variety. The 15 pin would probably actually have 16 changeovers on the switch. Matt S
