cleaning xlr connectors

how do you clean male xlr connectors? you know, to get dust etc. off the inside of the housing that surrounds the pins? an alcohol swab? if i look closely i can see a some dust, etc. there. i tried a dry swab , but it seems to cause more problems , because the strands from the q tips fall off inside there the pins themselves look fine or mostly so. i want to keep my gear clean thanks,
regards,
TF

Hi
Use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of dust.
Use switchcleaner to clean the XLR contacts. The brand and type you use may be up for (many) discussions but it will be the way to go. I use Electrolube but others will chime in with their own view.
