TRS...are they hard to make?

What up peoples, this may not be a tech question but is it hard to make some cables, i have 4 dsub cables that are sittin here and i need to make one end TRS, im not a a solder novice but im not great, is it worth the hassle? A local shop is gonna charge me like 170 to put TRS ends on 2-8 channel snakes, I need help, thanks!

It's not hard, but if you don't do it well, it sucks.

Get some 1/4" heat shrink and the larger size too. It makes for good strain-relief.

Lets see:

16 TRS plugs =~ $50
various supplies =~ $10

2-3 hours of labor costs you $110.......

That's skilled labor and the cables will work.

I wire up cables all the time, both for my studio and several others.
$170 seems pretty pricey.
It really pays to develope your soldering skills and do it yourself.

I solder my own.

But it's probably not worth investing the time in if you are only going to do it occasionally. It'll take a good 20 hours soldering connectors to start to get good.

I bought the TRS connections and am gonna do it myself. It doesnt seem that hard to do and i do ned to develop my soldering skills, so wish me luck

I agree that's a good place to start. Doing your own wiring is priceless. When you can tell yourself "I know it's not the cable" troubleshooting problems is a lot easier. There's no turning back now... you are officially a Geek Slut!
