How much longer will record companies be around for?

How much longer will record companies be around for?
Do you think with the way technology is moving and all these sites like itunes and myspace and who knows down the future with computer technology. But do you think record companies will eventually fold down the road.

The more of cheap good equipment is available the more amateur recording studios will come up like mushrooms after the rain. It is exactly opposite. And I am going to help them making some equipment.

Please let me know if you find some reports from IDC and DataQuest.
