Spectra Sonics 610 i/o wiring

Hi,
anyone has the layout of the barrier strip on the back of a SS 610? ? The way I believe it is, I lose about 5-6dB of signal post-comp (without GR of course). Is it possible this one only works unbalanced? The unit must have been retrofitted with 1/4" jacks somewhere down the road.
On the other side I don't see a reason why this unit would be modded for unbalanced use only. But as you can see, on the input side, '-' and ground are linked on the barrier strip as well.
So I popped the lid: first of all, why is the input GND connected to a capacitor (pic 2)? Is it a ground lift cap?

Thanks,

Almost forgot the main question: can I get rid of all connections between pins and make it balanced again?
Thanks

I believe so yes. These units are balanced (Except when they get hacked apart like yours. Geez what the hell were they thinking?)

Just rewire the barrier strips to xlr and you should be fine.

I don't know about the capacitor. Kind a strange!

It looks like they took off the labeling also? Nice job by some hack in the past.

Did you ever find a manual? If not have you tried emailing Spectrasonics or calling them?

That's what I figured. I believe I'll just cut all the connections to the 1/4" jacks and work with the barrier strip.

I'm not 100% sure, but if I remember well, I've seen the capacitor in a few other ones befores as well (been a while though). So I don't think that was retrofitted.
Yeah, taking off the labeling definitely belongs in the category "smart things to do when you wanna make someone's life easier".
I got a PDF of the manual, but there's no info there on the i/o wiring. So, we're back to trial and error.

Okay...fast forward a week...I started cleaning out the mess of faulty connections; also got rid of the TS connectors, as well as the link between thhe - and ground on the input.
One other thing I noticed on the input side was a 10.7kOhm resistor across the + side. Anyone knows whether or not that's supposed to be there at all.
Thanks

Check out the Spectra Sonics website, Spectra Sonics 610 Home. You'll find a termination diagram, which should give you the information you need.
