Neve 8016 Frame Question

Hey....

Im a total neve addict.. and ive found a frame with compelte faders, monitor section and PSU's. It has no line amps, Aux section or input modules..

While im intimately fmaialir with 1073/81/64's and used an 8024 for so long i dont care to say im not so informed on the minor differnces of other consoles. Suffice to say the one is question is an 8016 24 channel model and im wondering what sort of modules ( 1073 or 1081/64 sizes it take),

What line amps? 1272, or 3415?

And what Aux modules?

If anyone is able to help me out on this i would be gratefull. as it apparently is still wired etc just all these modules have been 'picked over' for other consoles or sold off. So if i can source them i could be in luck.

Cheers
Wiggy

Hi

The probbie is to identify the console with totally minimal info... I wonder, as an aside, whether the other console you mentioned (8024) was such a beast because Neve only made two or three and they are as rare as chicken's teeth. Did you mean 8014? As in 16 channel 4 bus?

Anyway, wracking the memory cells, it goes something like this.

Many years ago, before they started using the much maligned 80 series designations, Neve consoles of the standard variety were called S/no of channels/no of busses. So a 24 ch 8 bus would be S24/8.

This desk became, circa 1971, the 8016 where 6 means 8 bus (don't ask me why this is so, or why the 8028 is 16 bus!)

Anyway, that could have (have pity on my memory here) 1064 channel amps and 1900 8 bus 4 aux routing units with 1272 bus amps.

Next came spawn of satan 8026 that had 1066/73 channel amps, 1943 routing units, and 3402 line amps that had no transformers... they were mounted on panels at the rear of the console.

This console was a pain in the ass to wire so was replaced with the 8026 Mark 2 which had the same channel line up but 3405 line amps.

A retro trend brought the final development, the 8036 back with 1081 or 1064 channel amps, 1943s still (I believe) and 1272 line amps.

Eight bus consoles went out of techy fashion and the 8028/38/48/58/68 series reolaced it with 16 busses.

I think that's all accurate but it does come out of recollections of events 30 years ago. If I missed anywhere, please let me know!

PS Obviously you can sort the 1066/73 versus 1064/81 options by measuring the space for the module... 8.75" or 12" for the latter.

Thanx for the info Geoff..

Im looking into it as we speak..

And yes im fully aware that only 3 8024's were ever made and its still making the rock records it allways has.. it recently turned 30 yrs old!!!

It such a simple beast to operate and its weird cos its one of the few desks to have auxes and NO monitor section, but with a basic inline monitoring option when the desk is put into 'remix' mode. I love it and its my most favorutie desk in the world, and if i ever won lottery i would buy its sister console which is in Japan.

Cheers

Here's a link to a photo of a "super-rare" 8024 for those who have never seen one!
