Wooden Blondie VS Violet Design - Finger

I recently did a little guitar fingerpicking comparison between the Wooden Blondie and the Violet Design - Finger for personal usage. So i thought why not post it here, might be helpful for someone.

Both mics were recorded at the same time, around 17" from the 14th fret, straight.
The recordings are raw, no compression or EQ or anything..

Chain: mics -> Focusrite Saffire pro 24 DSP -> Reaper

The identities of the mics can be found in the "Identities.txt" file, also attached here, so you can look at it before or after or whatever you want..

Hope someone finds this helpful.

I think I preferred Mic 1 in both instances. But really, if you were tell me that you'd actually just duplicated the same recordings and had only in fact used the one mic, I wouldn't be all that surprised.

There's very, very, very little difference between them, and I honestly can't say if any differences I heard were just my imagination/memory/expectations. Which is surprising considering that one is an omni and one a cardioid. I would have thought the polar patterns would have made more of a difference - I'd have expected to hear more room on one recording compared to the other.

It sounds great, by the way. Don't bother with any EQ or compression or anything.

More views of the identities than the audio files ... how sad. I'll try and listen to these later, thanks

Yes the results are indeed surprising, and the room is only partly treated (only the wall behind me and it's corners). I too preferred mic 1, it has lower noise, and a bit more focus in the low end. If i wouldn't have faded the recordings in and out, you could spot the noise a bit better, don't know why i did that.

I think that in situations that there is more going on in the room then just a guitar, we will hear the difference better between the omni Blondie and the cardioid Finger (bleed wise).

I prefer mic1 as well for both clips But that might change, if it were part of a mix ...

Mic1 is way more focused, and room-free. Tonally they are similar, the mic 2 is a little too much muddy in this situation.
