...I only listened to the vocals, and IMHO, the JJ Audio C1 wins easily (fuller, nice low-mids, smooth)...quality drops off noticeably from there...second choice I'd pick the T8000, and the M179 just sounds thin and grainy to me...

Yeah, the C1jjMod is very good. I'm really happy with it.
I'll mod the T8000 and sell the M179.

But if you compare value (soundquality/price) then all three are coming out very well.
C1jjMod: $400
T8000: $249
M179: $150

...the M179 is a wonderful utility mic, but IMHO, not a great choice for vocals in most cases...

...you may want to try some tube swaps on the Trion 8000 (stock tube is a Chinese Shuguang 6J1)...a better option would be an NOS 5654 tube (or EF95)...Oliver Archut (TAB Funkenwerks) recommends the Valvo 5654 for microphone use:
2x 5654 / E95F audio tubes VALVO NOS E 95 F MILITARY | eBay
...less expensive options would be the GE military issued version:
5654/6AK5W=EF95 GE 1968 SHARP CUTOFF PENTODE VACUUM TUBE EMISSIONS 90 Gm 110 | eBay

Thanks! Yes, looking at a Mullard EF95.
But, will consider your suggestions as well
