AEA R88 drum sound

I just bought the AEA R88 and seams I will use it mostly for overheads. To my ears it's so balanced and the transient response and stereo image is amazing. I used couple of db's around 12Khz and cut 2 db's around 300Khz. That's all. I would love some comments from you guys.

It's an old Pearl TC4-V. I use it in Fig8, pointing it straight down to the HH.
The best way I found so far to get less bleed from the rest of the kit.

Thanks Faderix, but I was actually wondering about the cymbals themselves . Which kind os HH did you mount in this particular occasion?

While you say "all mics in", could you tell us more about these mics please?
It's sounds cool indeed, nice drummer feeling too.

Distance?

What kind of distance was the R88 from the kit?
Also, for snare how did you use the M88?
Perhaps I overlooked this, I assume you used the R88 in
the Blumlein configuration vs the Mid Side configuration?

Love that kick sound by the way.

I also have an R88 and I love to use it for anything I can think of. I often use it in mono mode, or in MS too. I go back and forth, depending on how even the low end is between the channels.

Let me know when you try it on acoustic guitar. It'll really amaze you. I like to point the AEA label at the guitar hole so that each ribbon shoots at either the bridge or the 12'th fret. I can find some samples if need be. It's really something. I didn't realize how quick this mic was until I recorded acoustic with it.

I use rca 77d's as my drum overheads. always have to cut a lot around 2k. but love the smoothness.

It's just above my head behind my left ear, pointing it down to the snare. It's in blumline. I will deffenitely try it on guitar. Sounds very interesting.

I would love to try these rca's. I can imagine they are super smooth?

I used VP26 preamps but I just started to use my Earthworks preamps and thought that was a killer for the mic. You get so much details and transient responses in Earthworks. Combined with the smoothness from the R88, I thought it just sounded great.
