Maybe the principal behind the M600 is, if you rigidly couple the mic to the stand, the mic in effect now weighs the same as the mic stand so it's less likely to vibrate. It may be a way of reducing energy storage at subsonic frequencies. When a sprung shock mount is exited, the springs might still vibrate with decreasing energy long after the inital cause of the vibrations already gone. With rigid coupling, there's no springs to vibrate so if the mic picks up any vibration, there's less chance of energy storage. Thats my theory though i could be wrong. |

I heard about this mic mount a while ago and my first thought (before reading Brad's excellent explanation) is that maybe it's damping the resonance of the mic body itself. If that were true, then a hybrid mount could be conjured that was basically an M600 with a shockmount apound the outside. Hmmm....seems like I need to build one... David, could you test this out? I am concerned about losing foot-tapping resistance. Last edited by daxliniere; 23rd May 2009 at 03:48 PM.. Reason: I pick the most inappropriate words sometimes ;) |

Read about the problem with the m600 here: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/remot...cheaply-2.html Footstep shocks are clearly noticeable and other things |

I have some concerns about that, actually. I have a home studio with wood floors (raised floor), and record the usual: drums, vocals, guitar cabinets, acoustic guitars, bass cabinets, etc. Would the M600 be effective given that my floor obviously would resonate? Also, I'm pretty sure it fits an Audio-Technica AT4060. Would there be any sonic improvement with a Lawson L251? |
