Acoustic demo- Gyraf 1176

Western Folk:

http://koti.mbnet.fi/ol3/Out-Takes/Im%20Riding.mp3

Everything tracked with a DIY Gyraf 1176, although at the time it wasn't working properly. My brother made the unit. First real outboard compressor we have and I feel that it imparts this huge punchyness to the sound, especially when used in tracking. This is the big sound we've been searching for.

The song is just a demo based on an old riff. I wrote the lyrics literally just before we started testing the compressor so it is what it is. Mixed quickly on the same day ITB. Want to do a remix using the 1176 cause there's some slide guitar and additional vocal takes that can be added.

Anyway this is the way we're heavily leaning towards. Mixing and tracking with outboard. Sold all UAD plugins a while ago. More DIY stuff in the works.

Regards,
Rami

Thanks!

The acoustic guitar was recorded with a Michael Joly modified Oktava MK-012 trough a SCA A12 pre to the G1176.

UAD 1176 behaves and sounds fairly similar to the G1176 but where the hardware really shines is when used for tracking to get that sound before A/D conversion. That made a huge difference IMHO.

My brother is working on a DIY Rev A Bluestripe 1176 (Mnats) and a LA2A clone (Drip) with UTC transformers. I better start working on my soldering skills too.

Prodigy forums has a boatload of info on the subject which have been really helpful.
