Designing a mic pre, want to hear your opinions. New samples up! (scroll down in post

GO TO POST NUMBER 4 FOR NEW SAMPLES!!!!!!

Hey everybody, i'm currently getting into designing and building my own mic preamps. I have a sample track using one of my own designs. Its not completely done yet, (still working on another gain stage), but i'm fairly happy with it and I would like to hear your opinions. The track posted is just some quick song I threw together just to test it out, I have only built 1 pre so far, so on this track the snare, and the electric guitars are the only tracks I used my pre on. Thanks for listening! (Don't mind my crappy performance, ha)

I would love to help you out with an opinion, but it is impossible without some reference point. I don't know what your snare or guitars sound like. If they sound exactly like that, then you built a very neutral preamp, if they sound completely different, then you didn't. See where I'm going?

If you had the same guitar and snare recorded through some other preamps, then we would at least be able to have something to reference against.

Give us something to reference and hopefully you'll get some helpful opinions.

Cheers!

Mic Pre A/B Comparison.

Ok here are two samples for now.
I used a Sennheiser MD421 through both pre's, Guitar/Epiphone Les Paul, Amp/Peavey Vyper30W.
Let me know your opinions on both.
I'll put them up as Pre 1 and 2 for now. In a couple days i'll unveil the identities of both preamps. Thanks and Enjoy.

I think it's great that you are creating your own preamp and I'll try to help.

They are in SUCH sonically different ballparks it's still hard to give you any IMO valuable input yet. I'll try though: #2 sounded muddy compared to #1, but had some nice lows that I liked. If they had been the same distance, setup and performance then #2 is just too muddy. But, again #2 could be a nice pre recording a muddy source. #1 was a little too thin sounding for my taste (but, I prefer colored pres, so keep that in mind when reading my comments, I have a bias already). So comparing these two to each other was difficult with such a drastic difference in tone. Like comparing a Les Paul to a Telecaster.

Can you find a nice pre that sounds similar in tone and coloration to yours and I can comment on which sounds better then?

Cheers!
