I had to report for "impure thoughts" cleansing and an oil change. Haven't felt so good since the last time I went to confession about 40 years ago. I said the requisite "Our Father"s and "Hail Mary"s and promised to avoid the sinful thoughts and (non)actions that got me ghosted and banned.

I was raised as a French Canadien RC, and was even a lector for quite a few years as a young adult - of my own volition. I'll admit it - I liked working the mic when I read those biblical texts in a reverberant church. I was not a bell-ringing alter boy with close contact with the priests backstage. I have very fond memories of the pre-Vatican Council II "Latin Mass" when priests faced the appropriate direction - away from the congregation and toward the heavens - when the mystery of the Sacred was intact.

but yeah, I don't have much use for the dysfunctional Catholic church and their harboring of sex criminals and reliance on Papal Authority. That shit needs its own Jasmine revolution. I'm quite happy with my own direct line to Diety, thank you very much.

oops - good thing this isn't the "moan zone" were religion discussion is not allowed.

That's right. I belong to the first generation of my family (Landry) in 400 years in the New World that does not speak French. My own mother only spoke French until her 3rd grade Catholic nuns made it a sin do so. And this in Connecticut in the late 1930's.

So while I have the Cartesian brain of a Quebecois I don't have the proper words to express it. I guess this shame explains, in part, my tendency to be argumentative and hold a grudge - I've never gotten over the "Grand Dérangement" of the Acadiens, resultant Plains of Abraham debacle and eventual marginalization of the rural folks that forced them to seek a "better life" in New England.

Upside? I have a strong indigenous people maternal line. Those fur traders and lumberjacks liked their Indian wives. And that shit kicks butt!

Viva la France, viva Quebec, viva Louisiana, viva Abenaki, Algonquin and Micmac.

Right.

But back on topic - why did everyone hate the U47 when it was the singers favorite mic?

Probably b/c it wasn't as "airy/bright" sounding as the others

I tend to like a more bright sounding mic for vox in this genre of music, but in rock/blues/etc I'd have definitely favored the more even, less high freq hyped sound of the U47 myself.

To me it is wholly dependent on the type of music/singer/etc you're even going for...

and ALL these shootouts do for me in convince me that I need a Blackbird Studio's mic locker one day, so there's a flavor for everything that I might possibly encounter

so in conclusion...... I need more mics LOTS more

I liked it the most, too. Also the 87 in FETs. The Modded Apex is close to the former... missing some bass roundness, tho.

yeah, it's not like it wasn't a great mic. I think it was that it's HF response just wasn't what people expected from a 47, so they didn't think it was actually the 47, and ended up not liking it for that reason - perception over actual sound. Happens a lot. I know I'm guilty of it all the time - you have a preconceived notion and tend to lean that direction. Like when you twist an EQ, think it's better, and realize the in/out button is not depressed. I'm sure no one else has ever done that though.......

I tend to recognize Neumanns because of the midrange character, wich is indeed, very appealing for me. I agree with you in the HF... too.
