3 Lower priced LDs

I've rounded up three lower priced LD mics and put them in an array for a comparison.

Here's a blog post with a couple of video clips documenting the process: Homebrewed Music − Mic Comparison – a Tutorial

The three mics:Mics:
CAD M179
Rode NT2a
Audio-Technica AT3035

All in cardioid, all switches and pads neutral.

Clips:

http://www.homebrewedmusic.com/audio/20090625-K.wav
http://www.homebrewedmusic.com/audio/20090625-L.wav

PM or email me or post your identification of the clips in a comment at the Homebrewed blog and I'll respond with the key.

K- Sounds Warm, Sweet, Detailed, dynamic, 3D & Transparent. records harmonics. similar to Audix Cx-112.
L- Sounds vintage, similar biased to old neumanns u47fet or u87, muddy, blurr, colored, darker decays and quiet attacks.
J- Sounds metallic, cold. records fundamentals, sounds like the mic camera. that means the guitar could be like that.

My personal taste: K
****************
mic-pre & AD converter profire2626?
cable brand & model?

what mic needed the most gain?
what mic needed the least gain?
****************
about the salesman manipulating you to purchase the blue speaker.
crap is crap...
louder sounds more crap.
infact, loudspeakers that have weak magnetic BL, or bad thermal disipation, when pushed harder/louder the frequency responce changes "worsens" like behringer old grey truth 2031a.

also most class H amplifiers sounds better when used quiet, becouse almost all are class A/AB in the lower levels and change to class H in higher gains, some are class A and change to class AB like Krk exposé maybe vxt, but thats another story... becouse some class H sound better than some Class AB.

adding a harmonic enhancer or EQ, or better cable, better amplifier if passive, maybe... but just 3dB? nah.
but nice test anyway...

Took a listen here on my Sennheiser HD650. I'm usually not very fond of bright mics but in this case the other seemed a bit "closed" sounding.
So I preferred J

I would say the K sample would be the m179, just because of a lack of high end. I guess I'm comparing it to a 414 in its flat but dark sounding qualities, compared to other much more colored mikes. I would guess the J samples is the AT, and the L is the Rode....just guessing based on price. The AT pry doesn't have much warmth given it's cheep?

So which is which? I'd really like to know.

Listening on headphones...

J- I like this one the best.
k- Almost identical to J, except, there's a boring quality to the melody
L- I was distracted by the fret noise, so, my least favorite.
