No it's not an A/B test it's a test if you can distinguish a real fender rhodes from a nord stage in a mix.......it's different songs but the same instruments.

Hi all

So time to reveal the secret……thank you all for voting.

We had a nice recording session, recording live, I played the Nord stage planning to replace the rhodes sounds with the real thing in the end. Some of the tracks sounded to good to be replaced, partly due to feel and sound the real thing wasn’t better than the clone….

On “it's all about you” we used a nord stage!!! on but indeed ingrato-mondongo we used a mark 1 on Seven reasons.

Seven reasons

Here we used a real Mark 1(adjusted to ideal setting by Fredrik Adlers, the guy who recorded the samples for the stage) we connected directly from the harp to a moog phaser pedal set to bypass(increases the signal and probably a low pass filter my guess) and straight into instrument in on a motu 828mk3.

In the mix we used VKFx from scarbee to get the preamp sound and emulate some panning, with this effect we get bring forward more bellish tones.

We also used focusrite liquid mix dbx 160a emulation and a brit modern desk ssl g-series eq(added 9dB 1.8kHz)

Souled out

Nord stage Mark 1 deep through the onboard ampsim 1, some higs added eq.

It’s all about you

Nord stage Mark 1 deep through the onboard ampsim 1 some highs added

We added som dbx 160a emulation and a brit ssl g series eq using liquid mix.

Simple as that (yeah of course we cut out everything below 100Hz)

Judge for yourself about the sound but for me it shows how long way the clones have come in imitating the real thing, especially in a dense mix.

I'll see if I can load up a movie showing the tracks with and without the effects on youtube
