after we get back from AES we'll do the same with armando's 670.

thanks badge. much appreciated.

Wait, it's a frickin' quiz again???

I'm much better of when sample A starts with "ANAMOD" and B starts with "FAIRCHILD." Blind test, blah blah blah...

Come on RB! PM the cheat sheet to me please

Hmm. Only listened to the vocals so far. Vocal A sounds harsher than E, so I'll have to go with A being the Anamod, E Fairchild.

Pretty close though! Well done Anamod.

BTW
Is it that way the vocalist sounds or has the voice been processed? Very little modulation on the voice.

Vocal A, Bass E, Drums D - transients sounding more like original dry tracks - 670 ?

remaining tracks sound more compressed ,peaks shaved off - faster attack setting ?

I'm not so sure about Bass track but i can hear it on Vocal .

Thanks for sharing

There´s a little more grit in some samples, I guess from the original.

The compression ballistics seem shockingly close though.

Gut reaction - well done Anamod !

at 5:30am.. after Black Monday (NO BAILOUT FOR WALL STREET LAMPREYS).. on a laptop, no less.. i have a hard time splitting hairs and picking a clear cut favorite with these files. so KUDOS to Roundbadge for comparing the anamod to a seemingly fully functional fairchild 660. you're doing Dave Amels a great service by comparing his emulator to something that isn't broken, FINALLY. and you're doing the forum a great service.

vocal: E (anamod?)
the A (fairchild?) vocal sounds deeper but somehow more modulated, in a bad way. who knows, could sound better in a mix.

bass: E (fairchild?)
"deeper" works on bass

drums: D (anamod?)
C sounds more organic but i kinda like the more machine-like quality of D...

however, this is in solo. so i could very well like the other option in a mix.

very interesting test. the best so far. anamod is holding up pretty darn well.

I won't pretend to know which is which but I LIKED:

Bass E
Vocal E
Drums D

Strange thing on the vocal version it seems one of the comps (used on E) actually opens up the top end so much that it it makes the 'be' on the first line sound slightly flat on Vocal A.

Could just be me but I like the clarity on Vocal E.

around $2500 USD. they are close aren't they? greg explained that 660s and 670s sound slightly different because of biasing, etc. so that may account for some of the differences.

i bet there's not much difference if any between greg's fairchild 660 and anamod.

Holy Crap.

Wouldn't begin to which is which on this one...

*Voc "E" - i'd say had slight bit more oxygen. ("A" seemed a TAD softer).

*Drums were close ballistic-wise.

*Bass "B" maybe kinda seemed slightly warmer, (tho depending on context not necessarily preferred).

Thanks Again RB!
uber great of you to take the time.

Thanks a lof for your test. The clips sounds awesome
My guess of the Fairchild 670 is:
Vocals A
Bass E
Drums C
maybe I'm totally wrong...if so i would give the anamod a try

Here's my Picks: Whatever is Vocal A, Bass B, and Drums C is the clear winner by my ears. Loved the control and the slight bass rolloff so it would sit in a track better. Still fat and georgous but more controlled. I probably picked the Fairchild, huh? *Snif*

.By the way, damn good sounds and enjoyed the Police didy, and by the way, the bass was to kill for, can you name the chain? (or did you already), Ive been sick and crosseyed today.

I certainly wouldn't bet any money if I had to make a choice. They sound too close to much much of a call, at least on my smaller speakers.

I think the ballistics on the two are incredibly close. I finally realized that I was thinking that the ones sounding comparatively darker were the real deal, just because older stuff usually sounds darker. Not a real endorsement of one or the other. The only one that has a real "tell" to my ears is the bass. Specifically, there is something about the "glueiness" of the transients on Bass E that sounds like Fairchild to me. Of course, I'm probably dead wrong.

Thanks for doing this!!
I like "A "better on vocals and "E" on bass and "C" on the drums, the drums is where the difference is bigger, now they DO sound VERY Close...the question is ...is the difference worth $29K to you???....
