Peluso VTB vs Sony c800g..FINALLY!!

So many people have been waiting for this shoutout (including myself!)
I took the microphone all the way to paris with me.
security gave me s++t about it for talking it in the plane and I had to go thru special screening of my cary on bags but it was worth it!
My friend here ahs 2 or 3 sony c800g. I will do the test monday or Tuesday. Two mics one next to another runing thru 2 SSL channels same pre settings, no compression no eq etc...
then I might try 1 on top of another suggestions?

Yes I will post the answers on the other post where i did use the chandler on the VTB so you can use it.
On the other hand for the sony vs vtb test I will not use a colored Pre plus I don't have 2 chandler ltd1 to use so I have to use two SSL channels.

You need to be far enough away to neutralize placement effects...although placement effects can never be eliminated.

Personally I found your earlier samples of the VTB-1 to be unusable. Ice picks to the ears. The C800 is bright but silky.

A fine example of how truly worthless frequency response plots (or claims) actually are.

Too right. With proximity, off-axis response and sensitivity being different in all microphones one graph tells you precious little about the behaviour of the mic in real situations.

All I know is that mics are like golfplayers. Most golfplayers can hit a decent or many even a really excellent drive. Just not all the time. Like a professional player. Many mics sound good in some conditions. The really good ones are plain difficult to impossible to make sound BAD.

Sure you could make the VTB perform in the area of the Sony in the right context. Doubt however that it would be too hard to make it sond bad.

if the sound was ICE pick to your ears well that's the sound of the VTB. I was at the proper distance from the mic when recording.
I will place the VTB on top of the Sony. this way it will reduce differences due to placement.
I couldn't do it yesterday since I had to record a song and had no time for the test. I however pluged the VTB along with a FLEA 47 and everybody in the studio liked the FLEA better (about $6000 microphone made in Europe)
I will do the sony vtb test either today or tomorrow

Well we are still waiting for the c800 to come back with brand new toobing :)
I have one here now but the tube over 10 years old compare to a vtb with maybe 2 hours of use that wouldn't be fair.
We expect the sony to come back in the next few days

TEST DONE!!!!
We were able to get a C800g with brand new tube (same as original) so the test would be more"fair"
Here are the pics. I have to clean up the session and I will post
We used a VTB against a sony both on a Axiom ssl pre no comp, no eq.
Cardoid pattern for both and no High pass on and VTB On off frontal switch set to OFF.
My Friend X-cell a quick 8 bars on the piano for me to lay a melody over

Ok I'm back in the states! here are the files. Remeber we were NOT trying to make a song!! my friend played once a piano loop and I freestyled pretty much one take with no lyrics or melodies. I just wanted to do this test and I was booked with work so i did it once and for all.

here are the 2 files wav. 16 bits:

Microphone Number 1:
http://www.thecoldchamber.com/gs/mic1.wav

Microphone Number 2:
http://www.thecoldchamber.com/gs/mic2.wav

The piano is very low and not equed On purpose so you can hear the differences between the mics better.
both mics were plugged onto a SSL console, levels matched, NO EQ, no compression, No FX.
Place your Bets..which one is the Sony which one is the peluso??

Ugh. Couldn't you use a decent preamp?

Through the wreckage I prefer #2...but it might have just had less in it to be savaged by the console...

You are kidding right?... You are acting like I used a beringher pre of something!
I used the SSL pres because i didn't want any color in the tests and the SSL is known to be pretty cold and colorless.

Did you listen to how hollow and grinding those voices sound?

Behringer would have sent them back for QA.

Maybe the room was really really bad or something?
