Cool Mic Shoot-Out

We tested the Neumann U87, the Neumann U87a, the Neumann U67, the Shure SM7b, and the AKG C12 to hear the differences between them. They were recorded into a M-Box2 into Protools 7.4 on a MacBook.
Attached are 2 files; one with a constant preamp level and no level matching so you can hear the difference in microphone volume, the other with constant preamp and the levels matched within ProTools.
Attached Files
File Type: mp3 MicTest_Flat.mp3 (406.9 KB, 112 views)
File Type: mp3 MicTest_LvlMatch.mp3 (396.5 KB, 131 views)

you mean why as in why cant he afford A/D converters to match the quality of the mics being used? Or why did he do voice over tests on such nice mics?

that would be the question Pavi.. if you used the converters in the Mbox, its not really in keeping with the integrity of the signal chain, so you wont get a lot of love for that on this forum.

Also voice over tests are not as juicy as acoustic guitar and vocals.

Great mics though.

I dont mind if the test is acurate if the A/D is top notch or if this thread is cool... but for your spoken voice the SM7 is the best to me... no the U67 is but the SM is very good! the AKG sound like a hipass...
