The sample above is a 'stereo' file made with a pair of matched mics as close together as possible.

One mic went via 50ft of cheap mic cable and the other went direct into the pre-amp.

To compare the two you need to load the stereo file into some editor/daw and compare left channel with right channel, as individual mono recordings.

How close to the guitar? It would be even more convincing if there was another file with mics in swapped positions. And swapped pres....sorry, for getting anal.

Actually I'm convinced already, I hear the difference and it's something you would expect. Though I like the right channel better for some reason, maybe I'm just not into perfect realism.

Vovox to me definitely sounds brighter and clearer. Or am I imagining it? Yeah, haha I think it does. Yay!

if you are interested in this test, you might also be interested in this one: 5m Vovox vs. 10m very cheap cable, same piano take, both cables connected at the outputs of a mic splitter and on the inputs of the same multichannel preamp.

this sounds similar to the tests i have done myself. sold all my vovox cabling afterwards. they are a high pass filter to my ears.

I don't hear any great difference between both sides. The left one might have a bit more high end...
But what I hear is a really annoying hiss on both channels around 19,8KHz. This kind of noise drives me mad and I even noticed it in a few commercial records.
Concerning the cables I don't think it worth paying 5 times as much for such a marginal difference until everything else is perfect.
