Not meaning to moan, but can anyone specify why you'd need quad cores in an iPad? The iPad 2 seems to run my apps without issues.

and why would anyone need 2 TB of HD space or 16GB ram in a computer?

because more is better and who knows what apps will be available in the future.. my guess is with more power you can do more...

It gets a big MEH from me. If you're just getting into the iPad then this will be a great model no doubt, but I'm not in any rush to dump my iPad2 for this. I'm not a gamer though... The screen and the 4G would be nice to have, but for productivity and light music apps I think the iPad2 will hold me over just fine.

Retinay display. Without a dedicated GPU you need serious power for all those pixels. 2048x1536 is more than most computer displays.

More is always better, so long as it does not affect the computers performance in a negative way.
