Have a listen to the B&O iPod dock beosound 8. It's really pretty superb, although it does cost £900 or thereabouts. It's the only dock I've heard which genuinely impressed me from a sonic point of view.

At 900 quid it had better be impressive.

I bought a sony ipod dock for my mother at Christmas.
I was sceptical about the quality before buying, as i frequently use a bose soundock II, but honestly, that little sony worked out very well at about £80.
I'd know the difference between the two, but I wouldn't pay it.
It has DAB and alarms and what not too.
I'll find the model number, if you like.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't hang about here much.
It was a SONY XDRDS12IP.
Two things that annoy me about it.
Dab aerial is just a little wire instead of a proper aerial,
and the power cable is hardwired.
There's a 3 pin connector behind a little panel on the rear.
For convenience I hardwired a little DC jack to mine and bought a few adapters for different rooms.
There wasn't room to mount the connector in the casing, so it's just trailing on an inch of wire.
Big shame, but you might not care.
+ points.
Memory holds when unplugged.
10 DAB + analog presets
Charges ipod/iphone3g; Haven't tried a 4s.
Sounds great.

I really believe that all consumer electronics should have removable mains leads.

Probably not really what you're after Jules, but these are the best looking bedside ones that I have seen:

Audioengine A2. Not a dock as such, but an active speaker system with 1/8" and RCA inputs. Truly impressive for size / price (<$200).

I really like the retro look of that one. Plus the black screen compliments the rosewood box.

I actually prefer a different one to what is in the photo

Its made by areaware

You have to go and try a BOSE Portable, these things sound amazing and the battery life on them is excellent. It has its own built in battery and I take mine everywhere. People allways ask where the music is coming from and they dont believe me its coming from that little grey box.
They are pricy but well worth it.
Highly recommended (even though I loath bose products and the brand lol) |
