An old video from 2010 taken from the official blackberry site?
If we fast forward to July, 2011, we will already know that the playbook is a flop, just go read the many reviews of it. The sales figures for it are also pathetic. People aren't buying it because you can't do anything with it. The only few people who bought it are probably those who already have a blackberry phone, which is basically required to use it. And besides a few people in suits, who uses blackberry anymore? RIM is in big trouble.
the copycats always fail. the key is to be an innovator and not a follower. don't wait for apple to bring something to the market then follow them with your version of the same product. even if yours is better you still look like and are treated like berhinger by the public and quickly become "windows phone" or "zune".

Well, that's exactly what Apple did with "pad computing" and it is what sales leader Google is doing with Android mobile devices. Both companies products borrow heavily from others and are winning the ,arket.
I'm a Blackberry addict. I was just about to buy the playbook but my old curve finally died (after almost three years) and had to buy me a brand new 9800 Torch. So the Playbook is going to wait but let me just put this out here, Iphone users that are still swearing by their Iphone haven't used the Torch. New browser, new OS, much faster and tighter integration than any of their previous models. It's really unfair cause the Iphone gets compared to Blackberry in general, Blackberry has entry level phones all the way up to commercial grade devices like the Torch. Unfortunately RIM's stocks have plummeted due to this tablet. It only beats the Ipad specs wise (and it beats it all over the place). Not a whole lot of apps are available yet and bugs are still being worked out. The screen size is an issue too, it's not like you can put the Playbook in your pocket so why make it so small? I'd wait until the second generation of this comes out. There's LOTS of stuff out there that is as good or better than what Apple offers. If you're all about the touch screen phones, try the HTC Desire HD, the Blackberry Torch and those are just two that I can think of. It's not that Apple's products aren't great, they really are, but not necessarily superior.

I would have to disagree with that. There is not a single tablet out there which beats the iPad. They're all trying to be iPad killers, but every single one has failed miserably so far. Granted, I am an Apple fan and Apple user, but I will attempt to be objective for 2 minutes.
From a musician's and engineer's perspective, nothing comes even close to an iPad, which has all sorts of useful and really well made musical apps by a whole bunch of companies.
As far as specs on paper go, they often don't tell the whole story. What good is the latest dual core super fast mobile processor if that same tablet operates with lag and is choppy? Great hardware combined with poorly done software means that the overall experience is horrible for the end user.
I use my iPad for many things, including as a musical instrument. Any lag, latency or choppiness whatsoever in any tablet is simply unacceptable. The graphics and UI has to be super smooth and ultra responsive all of the time.

but you cannot dribble out a product on the down low. you have to go all out and claim the market like apple and google. I honestly couldn't tell you another pad computer before the iPad but I'm sure it exists. It's that company's fault that they didn't claim the market and tie it into their services like apple and google.

Several years ago all the computer companies went on a paddish kick. It failed. Apple (who I believe decided not to release in the first round) led off the latest bunch. The first ones (including Apple's) were big and expensive. I just don't think the computing power was available in the compact, low power packages it is now.
All that being said, the war is just beginning. Most think iPhones are a big deal, but it they ever led the phone wars it was only for a short amount of time as Sybian went to BB went to Android. Apple leads the MP3 player and pad market for now. MP3 players will most likely disappear and Android should be the predominant pad OS if we are going to continue to try to find a purpose for them. I suspect a lot of them will wind up being fancy paperweights and TV remotes though.

...the list of 10 best selling mobile phones on February 2011. And the position of Apple’s iPhone 4 as the physically best-selling mobile phone title has not been replaced. That is, the iPhone four survived at the top as the Best Selling Mobile Phones for five months in a row since October last year.
Here are 10 Best Selling Mobile Phones per month in February 2011:
1. (1) Apple iPhone 4
2. (8) Samsung Galaxy Tab
3. (2) HTC HD Desire
4. (3) Nokia 3720 Classic
5. (5) Nokia C5
6. (10) Nokia E52
7. (7) Samsung GT-B2710 / Xcover 271
8. (-) HTC Wildfire
9. (-) Samsung B2700
10. (6) Samsung i9000 Galaxy S
This is just up to Feb 2011. In July 2011 the Apple iPhone 4 is still #1. I have no love for the iPad or any pads. A waste in my opinion when compared to a laptop or iPhone/BB/Android.
I really like what RIM did with the Playbook, but as a musician i feel i can get a lot more out of my iPad than i ever will with any other tabletdevice (same counts for the iPhone).
The power of iOS is in the 3rd party apps. I don't see Korg making an iElectribe/iMS20 for Android/Blackberry OS.
The consumer in me would like to buy some Android or Blackberry tablet, to watch online streaming content (as i live in Belgium and we don't have any streaming services like Hulu, so i could watch series on the iPad).
Yet for the 500 euro's spent on the iPad, i feel like a get a lot more out if it, thanks to the many 3rd party apps. I hardly use the iPad for e-mailing/browsing/pictures :p
Bumping this cause I cracked and bought one. I have an Ipad at work and this is a lot nicer, much faster and I love the user interface on it. You know it's looking bad when you can buy them brand new for 225. Something tells me Rim is going out quick.
anyway,
I think the Playbook is a nice product. The video above is from Nov 2010. There have been software upgrades since then and I believe OS 2 is now out or coming soon with the Android app player and several other things. Tons of other youtube videos online to view as well as CrackBerry.com website.
RIM(Blackberry) screwed up big time with the planning and marketing of this product. This has been the case with the cell phone line as well. Seems like they need a change in management. They revealed the Playbook to the public but took an extremely long time to release it for sale. I guess they are trying to make up for it with the Playbook price drop. 16g - $199, 32g - $299, 64g - $399. BestBuy has been reportedly selling refub units for even cheaper than that.
