| Gear Head | Android DAW controller?
Hi. Just wondering if there is an Android app that I can use to control basic functions on my DAW (using Reaper)? I realise VNC etc is a possibility, but I am hoping that there may be something better - control transport functions and mixer at least? I have searched and come up blank, but it's entirely possible that I've missed something. Cheers Richard |

Just came across this: TouchDAW - DAW controller and MIDI utilities for Android™ EDIT: & This too http://www.androidzoom.com/android_a...ixer_uipx.html Seems a bit limited but may improve.....when I searched a month ago I couldn't find anything at all so good to see stuff appearing now. |

The new Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) supposedly had final addressed the latency issue that has kept music production/audio apps for really being usably on the an Android. Plus Android OS 3.0 (Honeycomb) is on the way. With the NDK for developers now available things should get real interesting for those of us with phones on steroids...I mean Andriods. | deviating from the topic a little...
Hey guys, since this is an Android-user thread, I have a quick question - I'm in the market for a field-recorder and I was wondering if its possible to record (at least) 16-bit 44.1K stereo files on an Android? Are there fairly decent stereo electret mics available for it? If so, any recommendations? I need to record street sounds, etc., not music. Any recommendations for good recording apps for it?

To any developers looking for something to do: I want a 24bit/96khz 4 or 8 track recorder on an Android tablet! Plug an octocapture into it, or one of those little motu units.. todd

Hey guys... I've tried TouchDAW free version. It is great when it works, but using it with my MacOS X setup via the MIDI over TCP-IP RTP is flaky at best. I've been meaning to try with the other protocols, but in my case, I was trying to control my Metric Halo DSP mixer for live use-case, so it was important that the connection be stable. In terms of interface, it was nice and simple. That being said, the mixer screen was too simple and having at least a channel name display would increase the usability for sure. Quote:

The major problem for me was that a phone screen is just too small to really do much useful. A tablet version is in the works & I'd imagine will be more useful. | |

Thanks for those links been too busy too take the time to search. Touchdaw looks promising. Edit: Just got it, it's not limited! It's bloody amazing for £3. If they make a galaxy one I'll go buy a galaxy straight away, you can pick them up new for £150 here. There was another one called touch, just search midi on the market, it allowed you to build your own interface, looked a bit complex but workable.

Tablet support for TouchDaw is due in the next update Where are you seeing £150 Galaxy tabs? That's a really good price. |

Do plenty of research before buying a cheap tab....some of them are pretty poor. For something like TouchDaw make sure you get a capacitive screen rather than a resistive (like those £60-70 ones you listed) & try to find one that is well reviewed. The cheapest capacitive I've seen is this one, screen image quality is not supposed to be great but it would probably work pretty well as a controller. 7" Tablet PC with Capacitive Touchscreen: Powered by Android - Buy your Android Tablet PC from Kogan UK |

Just FYI- the tablet must have a 1024x600 minimum resolution to use the full mixer tablet interface, otherwise you get the phone style mini interface.

Oh man. I've not looked into the whole touchscreen as controller thing in a while, and suddenly there's a ton of great affordable options. Good times! |
