Site seems slow... seems like a decent product if the hardware is priced right.

But use a monitor instead of a TV so you don't have to pay for the BBC.

My order finger is itching. I have been converting my DVD library to mp4 via handbrake, but I don't have a computer to tv solution... until this. For $99 I can watch Netflix instantly and access my iTunes library over the network and pipe it in via HDMI? I'm sold.

Bad idea. For music listening , at least ,the previous model allowed you to have your music library installed in its internal HD. So you could listen to your music without having a computer connected at all times. The new one needs to have the computer connected at all times, all it does is stream. It's basically just a dumb wifi audio/video interface for the mac ( and pc under itunes)

If I didn't already have a blu-ray player w/netflix app then this would be a killer deal. I think it's a little late, they should have made this 2 years ago!

Our computers are on 24/7 so that's not an issue for me, but I do hate that you can't buy movies anymore. How stupid is that? The whole physical disc thing is as yesterday as the CD is for most people, now it's back to ordering DVDs.

I believe you can still buy movies, just not directly from the aTV anymore , as it used to be with the previous model. The new one has no hard disk. So you have to buy from you computer and stream it to the aTV.

Is it 720p or the full 1080p?

I daydream the HDMI cable is extra and costs another $99

I can get them for under $5 here in The States... *** SPECIAL *** Black 6 Foot 1.3 28AWG HDMI Cable, CAT2, CL-2 (In-Wall) Gold Plated, Male/Male

Looks like the aTV only goes to 720p, so it's not adequate for your main TV. Might be fine in the kitchen or office...

And, if it's as glitchy as their website today, it's a non-starter.

No 1080p. It's not really a deal breaker at the price, but not playing .avi or .mkv is an absolute deal breaker.
I'll wait for WD or some other company to implement iphone remoteness to their hardware that already plays every format under the sun and does 1080p (never know, might get a 55" one day).

There is also the possibility it will be hacked to do all these things....

XBMC plays any format (in 1080p), and has a nice iPhone remote app

I've got an older Apple TV, which I shan't be changing any time soon - the new one just looks like a downgrade from the current one - all they've done is remove features!

I don't see a widespread commercial application for this. Then again, I'm not steve jobs.

After considering everything I opted for the WD Live Plus box. It's pretty cool, it's extremely small and you can hook a flash drive or hard drive right into it or it can access computers off of the network.
It plays a lot of video formats and mp3s plus streams Pandora and Netflix so it kind of covers all of the bases outside of a DVD player. It's only $20 more than Apple tv, but I didn't mind not buying into the Apple crippleware program (I already have an iPhone!).

If you watch TV a lot, you might not be capable of thinking about it

It might look dumb, but I think it is quite genius!

I live with 4 other people, all mac owners. In the center of our household we have an Apple Base Station connected to our broadband and also to a 500gb harddrive through it's USB port. Anyone who logs onto the base station can access the data or stream the media from that harddrive. This includes the aTv. With itunes home share turned on, anyone can stream a tune from someone else' itunes library.

We have even had multiple movies running at once, on the aTV and one a few mac computers.

I was impressed.

I'm sure the new Apple TV has it's place but I'm sticking with my original A-TV. I've ripped my favorite movies and uploaded to it for instant access, having music stored on the box is more convenient and the Netflix streaming disk for PS3 works beautifully. We just got Nexflix (3rd go around) and the streaming option for the PS3 is just amazing. Yeah, it's not pristine video quality but who cares for some of the older flix. It's fast and easy...I'm all about that these days.

+1. I have the 160GB model, with my favorite tunes, videos, movies and TV shows on it, it's set for 1080p and looks and sounds great. Plus, I can stream anything from my 2 TB iTunes library to it. Killer.
