Randomization and Arpeggiation

Many years ago, on the Mac - there was a fantastic specialized sequencer application called: 'M'. Basically, it was a cool sequencer that was heavily focused on dealing with randomization and arpeggiation and other specialized techniques that could build interesting sequences from short MIDI themes and phrases.

That program was phased out many years ago I'm wondering if there's anything on the Mac or PC that can compare. I think Ableton Live is a very good start along these lines - and was wondering if there's any other programs with some of these capabilities?

If you're into generative stuff pick up a used atari or download the pc atari emulator called steem. m and all sorts of other atari music software is now freeware and can be downloaded here:

steem you can get here http://tamw.atari-users.net/steem.htm

it works with most pc midi hardware.

I'd just write MAX patches to do a lot of this stuff. Works great.
