mjah, eeh you need to ask yourself the question; do you need a flexible synthesizer environment, or a sequencing tool for writing, and doing live performances? Or both?

reaktor or ableton? that's tough, they are both major parts of my workflow (and my income) but they are totally different so it's hard to compare. if you like logic for sequencing/composing then it maybe good to stick with that and get reaktor. especially because you can upgrade from a few NI apps to the komplete bundle at a nice discount. Then again, if you moonlight as a wedding DJ, ableton will be your new best friend.

I use logic, all the NI plugs and am very happy. When performing live, I use reaktor stand-alone. Ableton I use mostly for time-manipulation/warping, but melodyne might be eclipsing that soon in my studio...
