What sequencer do you use?

Ok guys, what do you use to sequence all those slutty synths and virtual instruments of yours?

You can vote for more than one option, for example if you use reason and ableton rewired in protools...

EDIT: This list is obviously not complete, for example the appaerantly very popular Digital Performer is not in the poll! so that would be a vote for other...

Digital Performer, version 3.11 and up
Nuendo 1.62(need to upgrade)
Logic 6 Pro(on the fence about upgrading)

Next will probably be Pro Tools LE on an MBox 2 FireWire

I often find it is easier to get phrasing right playing stuff than sequencing it. I love using the roland handsonic as a midi controller.

For playing around with sequencing, numerology (mac only) is a real blast. It's not really about laying out a full arrangement perfectly (IMHO). It's more about tweaking stufff and getting crazy results. It's very much it's own thing, and it's kind of hard to describe. I am planning do buy logic pro soon, though, and use it to record midi tracks into the sequencer form the handsonic and then go over it and record parameter automation, so I'm not like a purist or anything.

been an mpc sequencer person since 1996 so daw sequencers like logic, cubase/nuendo/dp, etc. all look too crazy for me. way too much stuff happenin and screen too cluttered.

only daw sequencer i actually learned in an hr and used w/ vsti's was Tracktion 2. nice and simple. to the point.

I use a Roland MC-500 MKII to do my sequencing. I'm looking forward to getting a mac and using Logic Pro though.

I use DP.

And for live stuff, I use the Korg EMX-1 (still skittish about taking laptops to gigs...)

Sonar. When I record a new track I simultaneously record it as both audio and midi tracks. That way, if I played it right, I'm done, and if I need to fix that one little *&$*$#!! wrong note I tweak the midi file and re-record the audio file, this time with the repaired midi track playing the synths. Midi edits are really easy in Sonar.

Interesting workflow. I wish I could be able to commit to my compositions on first play like that.

I use Cubase 3 but also have PTLE and aside from occasionally tracking friends it is simply not useful to me as an electronic composer. Hopefully in the future I can use it for vox though.

The absolutely most user-unfriendly software I have ever used. From version 3 to version 8 (the last one I had) it has consistently proven to be not understandable by anyone except aliens with lots of free time on their hands for reading pages and pages of manuals. Samp follows none of the basic Windows protocols, which means it's impossible to find your way around without six months of private tutoring 6 days a week. Yccchhh....

How do you convert the vocal wav file into midi instantly as the vocalist is singing?

Whoa! Didn't expect so many DP users, otherwise i would have added it to the poll! Don't know anybody myself who uses the program around here, that's why... Might this be more an US thing?

I can't seem to edit the poll anymore so all you Digital Performer guys can vote for other. sorry bout that

Also very cool to see some hardware sequencer users! Used to do that myself; totally different workflow... different results maybe too?

As you all might have noticed some of your votes and posts got lost, i want to encourage you to just vote and post again.

Hi,
I'm using Nuendo 3.2 as my main sequencer/recorder with 2 RME Multiface Cards and 2 ADI-8DS converters...
I also use Reason and Live in Rewire mode but I mostly use hardware synths and drum machines. But the BIG problem I have is to sync and to limit MIDI latencies and jitter in my setup...

DAW Setup:

Asus P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard,
Intel P4C 3.0GHz @ 3.43GHz,
Corsair 2*1Gb XMS DDR1 memory sticks,
Matrox G550 Graphics Card,
Adaptec 29160 SCSI card,
RME 2 PCI HDSP cards,
SATA Hard Disk for System,
SCSI Hard Disk for Projects,
IDE and Firewire Hard Disks for Sound Banks and Backup,
RME 2 Multiface breakouts,
RME 2 ADI-8 DS converters for a total of 36 I/O,
MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV/USB,
Novation X-Station Synth & MIDI Controller.

Software Setup:

Steinberg Nuendo 3.2...,
Propellerhead Reason 3.04,
Ableton Live 5.02.

Hardware Setup:

Alesis Andromeda A6,
Roland Jupiter-8,
Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter and its MPG-80 controller,
Roland Juno-60,
Sequential Circuits Pro-One,
Korg Wavestation EX,
Novation Supernova II,
E-MU E4XT Ultra,
E-MU Emax HD Plus,
Roland TB-303 Bassline,
Roland TR-909 Drum Machine,
Elektron SPS-1 UW Machinedrum.

Mainly using Sonar and Sibelius and a bit of Band-in-a-box and sometimes Rebirth.

I'm not that fond of step sequencers so I got into sequencing mainly from reading and transcribing music on the stave. I started with Cakewalk back in the day and slowly went over to using the Piano Roll as well as the stave.

I must admit that I think midi is SH1T! I wish there was no note priority and that it was more stable. In a way I think of midi as being monophonic.

I have been known to print the audio from a sequence one track at a time to make playback more in time. I also hate it when midi ramps up and levels off at a given tempo. I can hear it fluctuate very annoying.

Still I love sequencing and using midi to compose. A real outlet for me.

Peace,
cortisol

MPC4000 replaced Logic Audio for midi and sampling duties. Looking fior computer based audio recorder. Hated Nuendo. Loved old Soundscape. Logic is an OK recorder, bit cluncky. Ho hum.
