Thread Starter | anyone use midas console for mixing?
Does anyone use these, I heard they were pretty good,.. I might get the 16 channel midas venice just to start out. Should I get another preamp or are the midas ones good enough? I will be using this with logic , and just want to do the out of the box thing. Im thinking about setting my levels with a very nice preamp like a neve 1073 each track and reprint them in logic. Once the levels are set, then bring ill bring the tracks out to each channel of the midas console and proceed to mix it.. with all the analog gear of course.

i wanna get one for mixing/summing, and expand with a few choice pieces of outboard, be it pres or eq, comp.. for electronica, ambient, but for pop and orch score as well. all i've gotta figure out how to run (balanced) outboard back into insert return (which is unbal.), i.e. how to de-balance the signal without losing the tone.. i want to use insert returns for outboard for two reasons - to bypass the fixed -20dB pad on venice line ins, and to bypass its op-amp and imparting midas pre character on a signal coming from, lets say, API or something.. going thru the opamp would kinda defeat the point of having an external (expensive) outboard in the first place.. i've seen in schematic u can actually put in a transformer on mic pre input on venice.. i wonder which ones are supported by the PCB and surrounding space. that would be a nice way to "beef up" a few selected channels on-board mixer. |

I use a Venice 320. When i bought it, i sold my PC, i sold my apogee's DA16, and i bought an Alesis HD24XR (well, i have a good rosetta). I have a pair of rack with several comps and several revs and delays (good stuff). I don't need more to get the best sound i have ever had. Midas Venice is simple, no a lot options, but a great sound. You will have to spend a lot of more to get a bit of more quality. Good luck! |

I use a Venice 320 live. I've brought it into the studio a couple of times. The pre's absolutely smoked any of the lower end stuff I have. It's an awesome sounding board. For recording with the 320, I'd heard it was a good idea to use the external power supply. Anyone care to comment? BTW the 320 and 240 offer the option of using the external power supply. The 160, however, does not.
