Doesn't your keyboard player already know what they want? Musical instruments are pretty personal items, and since this person will be the one who has to learn how to use the thing I think it should be their decision. I think your keyboard player should do some research. (And, I might add, I think it's very generous of you to be buying the instrument for the keyboard player. I played keyboards in bands for many years and nobody ever bought any gear for me. That would have been very nice indeed!). DP

the nord electro sounds great, but the keybed sucks. My former roomate fixed this by getting a yamaha electric piano and using it and a cheap midi key controller to control the electro rack. If your key player already has some kind of keyboard that will send midi, the electro rack is what you want.

oooh that's out of your budget i think.. and for the record the keyboard is what i liked about the Electro.. HammondWaterFallish..very nice.. just dig up any old hammond with tonewheels from your favourite thrift store chain.. ummm i think the pianos will be hard to comeby cheap... i think you're in the market for a module or two with a decent midi controller.. i think i remember a "Vintage Keys" module from emu a few years back... that might do the trick for strings.and synths...i don't know about the pianos or organs good luck mate! just remember that there's a world of samplers out there.. and that casio will always be there for you..
