Waves or UAD

If you were being banished away to an island, and had to choose between Waves or UAD, what would you choose? (You would get all the plug-ins from either Waves or UAD) and why would you choose Waves/UAD?

The two companies clearly compete against each other and I'm interested to know Electronic Music artists opinions on who is better than who. Feel free to discuss who has the better tape emulations, 1176 & LA2A, etc.

I've owned and used both and I'm honestly not sure which one I would choose. By the sheer numbers, Waves offers many more plug-ins, but quantity does not equal quality. I've never used all of the real hardware though that these companies are trying to recreate, so it's very difficult for somebody like me to decide on something like this.

UAD

Best mixing plugs in the biz in my opinion.

Waves was some dope shit in like 2002, lol. I gave up on them years ago.

with UAD you have re-sale value. you can sell the card and transfer the plugs. it's easy to transfer on their site. but you cant split the plugs up, it's all or nothing.

i've heard horror stories about waves being impossible to sell on.

Banished to an island... only those two to choose? I'd take everything from UAD.
>
Give me a personal choice to pick, choose from the world of available plugins?

EQ:
DMG EQuilibrium
Photosounder Spline EQ

Comps:
DMG COMPassion
Klanghelm DC8C
Tokyo Dawn Labs Feedback II
Slate VBC
Slate VTM

Creative:
Valhalla Ubermod
Vintage Verb
Melda Chorus
Sounds Toys Echoboy

Limiter:
FabFilter Pro-L
Slate FG-X

I can accomplish everything I need to do ITB with those for
50% of the price of Waves or UAD. Plugin to Plugin, many
times I'd chose these over the UAD counterparts if I owned
both. Especially the limiters.

YMMV

Waves. You can network another mac to Logic to get more plugin power if that's an issue.

I like Waves and I've been using a lot of their plugins for many years. But, I've never owned a UAD card, so I can't say that I like Waves better than UAD. I would love to have an Apollo, though.

I like both but if I had to choose just one it would be UAD.

I'd think UAD sounds a little better with the extra processing and all, but waves has so many tools. I'd be happy with either, but I'd probably go with UAD as long as I'd get at least a quad.

So I guess the question is 'how much coloring do you like'. I've not used either but have heard the Waves has a little bit of colorization while UAD has a lot more.

Why not look into Sonnox plugins? Those seem great with nice transparency to let you hear more of your gear's character.

Waves because I have plentiful more experience using wave plug ins than UAD. But i'm sure after aquiring the apollo I may change my mind.

There is in some parts a bit overlap because also Waves has some good emulations of the classics (CLA series) but I think I would pick the UAD for the desert island.

Waves needs to update their la2a and 1176. The new UAD emulations really stand out now

I have used UAD for years, and have bought a couple of Waves recently. They both have very nice tools these days!

TBH with what I own I'd have to go with UAD for the island, but if we were to have the entire collection to choose from, I think Waves has better utility. I mean we are STUCK on the island. I would want doubler, denoisers and stuff too!
