Oh magic, magic box, where are you?

Now that my project studio has nicer a/d conversion, I'm thinking more and more of getting a magical rackmount box to pass audio through and back into the DAW.

Something 1U tall that can do magical things to individual tracks, submixes or entire mixes if needed. Something with knobs I can twist. Something that can go from subtle to sledgehammer and back with the tweak of a switch. Something that will do wonderful things to ITB mixes.... A secret weapon.

Any suggestions?

yeah go for it!

-why not roll your own? GSSL with API thrust circuit/1176 clone DIY
you can add options that are unique, and it will be YOUR box entirely
-lots of other options too many to name
stereo would be preferable, right?
Thermionic Culture Pullet?
Mini massive Passive
LA-22 LA-12
-hunt ebay for weird and wacky, sometimes it pays off (that's what I did)

I like the Palindrometer with the transformers!

Thanks for your replies!

I'll look at the distressor. I keep hearing the name thrown around by the rock and roll crusties a lot, so I'll investigate. It's just a compressor, is it not?

Actually, I quite like the idea of going to tape, too...

Germanium....? Hmmmm.... Let me look at it...
