What genre is this...

I've been making stuff like this myself recently and have noticed it seems to be a growing scene (maybe its just my listening tastes are gravitating towards it). But I have no idea what genre it would be called. Of course genre and labels are not that important, but as a small artist trying to promote yourself it helps if you can tag your tracks correctly so people who might enjoy them could find them.

anyway examples of the sound I'm talking about...

My own one (spam alert)

I'm guessing it's not most slutz cup of tea, but I like it.

Sorry for the intrusion, let business commence as usual.

I'm not sure it's ambient. I mean the r n b vocal seems a large part of it. And I certainly don't think vocals when I think ambient. There's loads of this stuff about at the moment too, like holy other and baram acab etc.

idk, always thought of this stuff as "intelligent trap" but i know that's way off haha

modern minimalistic electro rnb

....wave

EDIT:

while this stuff is really chill (nice track btw man) i don't think the genre/style has staying power. interesting to see where it leads though

Trap music heard the term a ton but no idea what it is lol.

Yeah it's certainly not the genre to end all genre's but I've certainly been enjoying it of late.

I'll check your friends stuff out. Thanks for sharing. Always nice to expose the ears to new sounds.

It's cool. A bit more trip hop sounding beat wise. Like it. Putting me on is really good.

I thought post dubstep was reserved for james blake and mount kimbie? e

I guess post dubstep and minimal R n B are the most appropriate. Cheers.

No idea, but yours is better than theirs. The other three would make me want to go asleep if it wasn't for the super harsh snares and percussion and stale plugin reverb use poking me in the eye, keeping me awake and annoyed. Your one has nice movement and runs like a little stream.

what you posted doesn't really stray far from it... they're all pretty much the offspring of Burial imo.. 2step beats with ambient & chopped/pitched garage/RnB vocals..and massive use of hall reverb.. little bit cliché formula already if you ask me.. very london 2010

Haha thats a bit harsh. Especially on lapalux. His album is pretty damn awesome if not quite unlike that one track.

I think this whole sound blew up with "how to dress well "

you could get famous and big by calling it Mech Soul
write music history, get immortal in almanachs

I just claim 0.5% shares for the name
I think it fits quite well, it's not derogatory, maybe even too good

Met someone today who said they made "silk road fusion"! I was some what jealous of such an imposing genre title.

I like a lot of it personally, it's very trendy atm, lots of producers in Ireland and the UK on this tip atm, the continual use of pitched vocals can start to get annoying though. One of my favourite tracks of 2011 was Further by Lando Kal.
