where'd that thread go? No sign of it. was going to post some sounds I spent time to record and now no more thread? did it get ugly or something? seemed like a fun idea to me

I was looking for it too. The OP was a bit harsh but we were all having fun. At least when I left it last night. We're all adults here and the banter was harmless and humorous overall.

Oh well. The folks who did post work should post again.

Darn. Now I feel even more silly for making an entire song just for that thread.

At least he didn't hate it!

Oh well!

http://soundcloud.com/aktuator/unifilter

Though I guess without context and its accompanying post it's even more silly.

*wink*

The thread needed to be removed.. too little respect in it.. I hope warnings were issued too.. I don't want GS becoming a repository for those who enjoy bickering on the internet

a simple "closed" follow with a lock would let people know what happened. I thought maybe I imagined the whole thing yesterday! ....memory fading and all... hahahaha

As an exercise in trolling - nothing more.

I think it was reasonable to remove it as well.
One thing is honest (and possibly heated) debate between people that hold irreconcilable viewpoints, another thing is just stirring shit up for the sake of it.

The gone thread was an example of the latter.

There is no limiting. Careful judging waveforms.

Ask Rupert Neve, I'm not actually sure how the compression on that unit works, but I enjoy the result.

I am in error, after testing even with the knob at zero it still limits significant overs. I was not visually seeing action.

I can share a photo of the recall sheet I used if you like.

If I spend a years worth of savings on a device I intent to use it on every song I make. Do you personally feel it would sound better without the limiting circuit? Or is it just the parameter choices of the user? I'm curious as I'm still getting used to it.

k, I didn't do a "Song", just made some snippets that I felt were at least as good as the Moog - not meant to SOUND EXACTLY like a Moog, just in the general arena. from digital, of course, per the original posting, recorded dry. and actually they are all presets. I also OWN a moog and it sounds ok too sometimes, but its limitations keep it from getting used for anything more than occasional nostalgic midnight jams

Actually I was aware of none of this so thank you a ton.

I've only had the unit (RND Portico II MBP) for a couple of weeks and am still not fully use to it. I did find however that even with the limiter seemingly disengaged it may perhaps still be limiting "overs", so there may be some truth to his statement.

I didn't feel it was lacking in dynamics, but perhaps I'm just strange.

Technically it contains a fair amount of Moog, 3 of them (of different makes) but the "theme" was to combine it with "cold" digital sounds from Surge and an Emax and see what the unification of the lot would say to the OP of that former thread.

Though he lamented that it was in song form and that he would have preferred a few notes of a single patch. I just can't subjectively have a use for patches without songs, so really I was the foolish one.

I at first rationalized to myself that spending 5 hours on a relatively complete song was in fact very foolish, but I shouldn't kid myself, I'd be making music anyway, he just provided some marked goals and obviously the unique twist of adding patches themed around his username.

Once again though Controlvoltage, thank you a ton, I had no idea about any of that concerning soundcloud.

their audio aint great but this hasn't happened to my uploads. i read somewhere the trick is to include silence in the wave (eg a fade out).. here's a good example of a sound that is definitely not limited or maximised...

according to this thread, soundcloud's helpdesk recommends leaving -3dB headroom on the files you upload... so i am guessing that's where their "transcoding master limiter" is set.

I've actually appreciated it on some of the live DJ sets I've uploaded; it's made my level matching look better than it actually was

I don't understand why so many of the threads end up getting closed because they look like WW3.
it nearly happened to the Roland digital synths but cooler mods presided and he just deleted the offensive posters

dfegad, wow. Interesting story here, gather around children.

I read this word, dfegad, thought it was a typo. I none the less googled it to find if it was the acronym for something. Turns out the only meaningful results are from gearslutz. I initially thought, oh just some guy who invented a word and keeps using it everywhere.

BUT NO, THERE'S MORE.

A thread for asking the things you should know by now but don't

This page on this thread mentions dfegad 7 times. And amongst others, the secret is revealed.

Well played Mr. Lau, well played, I suggest we further use this term 'dfegad' as to mean pissing on someone as a staple of this community.

might as well derail the derailed threads...

Well, difficult when the thread is a bit offensive from the get-go, and the most offending posts came from the OP himself. I fear a cleanup of that previous thread would have created an accumulation of nonsense. The irony is, this was already case without such a cleanup.

within confines of 24db ladder filter.. which aren't bad confines to be in...

but i guess i'm just saying.. awesome as it is... minimoog isn't the yardstick for me

edit: meaning.. if i'm making sounds i don't think "hmmm.. i hope these are awesome like minimoog"

Oh man you're not kiddin', you should've heard the demo on the original thread. It was the worst crap moog sound I've ever heard. Had an eq with a high pass around 200hz and a really crappy reverb with about 80% wetness on it. Then there was the off-kilter drum beat he put below it. It was...sad...

Yup, pissing or dfegading (not defecating)

But this was an even better definition:

I am not trying to dfegad ubk, but I found tuning my 5th string to F just too loose

Yeah it was a scream. I was actually laughing out loud.
Something about how a mini was infinite and the speed to reach infinity being faster with a moogerfooger. I wish I had nabbed it, it really was too much. Too bad he fell over the cliff.

Oh well the community is what it is, and has its needed sensibilities and thats cool. For me though humor overrules all the rest. Much rather watch that then yet another mundane 'fill in the blank' type thread.
