Roland VP-9000 vs Software?

Are the functions of the VP-9000 still relevant with the selection of software available nowadays?

I've been researching it a lot lately - It seems to have some fantastic capabilities accompanied by hands-on-immediate-interaction, which is a big plus for me. I realize that there is software today that can perform similar functions, (Kontakt, Melodyne, etc) but I'm not sure if any of them are as hands on, or that any single software is capable of doing everything the VP-9000 does.

I'm looking to take samples and be able to manipulate/play them in real time via midi to rephrase, harmonize, pitch & tempo change separately, formant adjust, etc - I also think the "robot voice" feature is pretty interesting.

Of course, my hang-ups with the VP-9000 is the older technology (zip drives, memory limitations, etc.) Any advice/opinions will be a great help. Thanks!
