I have A LOT of software, a lot of it is freebies but some are not.
DAW: Reaper
Tracker: Renoise
VSTi: Kamiooki, Sonigen Modular, Korg Analog, D16 drum machines, Elektrostudio Analogue Pack, Waldorf PPG Wave, Sugar Bytes Thesus
VST: Throbber, all Mokafix distortion pedals (probably the best digital distortion imo), EMT-2000, "the classic pack", Waldorf D-Pole, Cyclotron, Sugar Bytes Vogue, all Variety Of Sound
There is loads more, but I have been using these non-stop lately. It's also off the top of my head.
- Intelligent Devices Paris
- Audacity
- Reaper
- Image Line Harmless
- Wolfgang Palm Plex 2
- GlaceVerb
- Chickensys Translator (Full)
GlaceVerb, forgot about that one. I've got it too and it's one of the best software reverbs around. Though, I had to stop using it because I had used it so much through almost every configuration that I had to get something new.
I run Windows XP, Cubase SX3, and along with a shedload of hardware synths i mainly use the free VST's Blockfish (compressor) Ixoxdelay, and Dr Fusion (Drum synth). Also have Kontakt and EZ drummer for samples.
I still use some of the free Cubase plugins like grungelizer, A1, Monologue, Chorus, Reverb B, etc etc, is that crap? XD

I'm looking into Pro-Q myself - I was very impressed with the Youtube tutorial.
But I'll hold off a little until I see whether Live 9 bothered to copy it correctly, and there's another big purchase that's in the way at the moment.
ohmicide: don't forget your own list!
No idea if it sounds better/worse than anything else but it looks pretty, it's clearly laid out and it's flexible. Definitely gets a thumbs-up from me .
I think software synths are the greatest thing that ever happened, but I think some of you have too many.
Any DAW plus Komplete 8 by itself is already too many; it's more than most studios would have 20 or 30 years ago.
If they were hardware keyboards or racks, you'd have a pretty stuffed studio, which brings its own set of problems (or not: these problems have solutions, provided that you spend enough money)
If they costed as much, you'd be wealthy (or wealthy no longer ).
But - they don't!
So when you judge it as "too many", are you using the criteria you'd normally judge equivalent hardware setups with?
not that this is only the stuff I currently use now, I have more but most of it is either still stuck on 32-bit or I found better alternatives

How do you find Z3ta? Heard good things.. what does it excel at..
I'm super careful when I buy software now.. I have very few bits, having a lot of software I find is the worst possible thing for creativity, it sucks it dry.
Me personally?
Synths; STROBE, CYPHER, MASSIVE, FM8, ABSYNTH, REASON.
The most used are Reason's synths, I put reason as a synth as I don't use it as a DAW, more of a synth with it's effects and then rewire into Logic. I am obsessed with it as a creative tool, absolutely obsessed.
The least used is Absynth as I haven't taken the time to learn it better like my other synths. It is probably the most complicated as well, which is a bit of a downer in my opinion, creativity needs simplicity.
Processing:
Cytomic Glue, UAD Quad Satellite with various plugs, to name a few, 1176 collection (****ing amazing) Manley Massive Passive (another triumph), Fatso (Good.. very good), Struder Tape (not used much, but nice for adding something to my own loops). Want to get more UAD plugs when the budget allows.. I've just spent over £30,000 on hardware over the last two years so buying stuff is tough. Bloody hell they're great plugs though.
My favourite thing, (even gets close to my hardware) is Reason though. It has literally changed my life and breathed air into my productions. It is the most creative thing on earth and now they have released rack extensions, it's just entered a whole new cool. There are already some great ones.
Cubase 5.5

Thats it I think...i also have a few freebies from mags..including EQs and synths, but im mostly hardware synthwise nowadays
magix music maker 3.0
little drummer boy
simsynth
hammerhead
rubberducky
lame encoder
cracked rebirth and some mods
goldwave
100mb or so of samples in wav format, blips bleeps booms brrrratsm bwows etc.
I don't use much of it anymore, unless I'm out with just the MBP, so I'm a little hard-pressed to remember every plugin. Though seeing some of these lists, I don't feel like I have a truckload anymore lol. I'm definitely on the light side FX-wise, and pretty low when it comes to synths. And yes it's all legit :p
DAWs:
Ableton Live 8.3.4 Suite
Studio One Pro 2.5
Reason 6.5 (considering selling, though I really like it's synths. Just don't use it enough)
Renoise 2.8
Numerology 3 Pro (nothing like it)
OhmStudio
Jeskola Buzz (OG version for older songs, though honestly still high on my list)
Cubase 6 (really need to sell this one on; Cubase 7 has devalued it enough)
Synths:
uTonic
Synplant
Axon
Gladiator
kiloHearts ONE
Scanned Synth Pro (nothing like it)
Digits (Phase Distortion freebie)
Granite
Aalto
Circle
ABL2
Effects:
CamelSpace
Discord3
Eos
RP-Verb
RP-Delay
I have a few other plugins that I no longer use, but technically still own because I can't sell them off

I use things that make noise. Sometimes it even turns into a song
U-he Zebra 2 my main softsynth! the best in my opinion, can sound warm or ice cold, it is your choice, Diva is in my pipline
Native Instruments: Battery 3 easy to use but a little old now, Reaktor 5 one of the best and it still sounds great.
Spectrasonics: Omnisphere good sounding engine but not so many sounds in there that I can use, hardly using it any more.
Virsyn: Tera 3 sounds great but the GUI is very old and flat.
Applied Acoustics: Tassman 4 one of the fattest most analog sounding.Love the sound but the GUI is not so nice, Ultra Analog.
Korg: KLC Analog Edition.
Rob Papen: Albino 2 great synth! great for warm analog lead sounds and pad sounds.
Softsampler EXS24 (Logic Pro) but soon Kontakt or Motu, I think it will be Motu Mach Five 3.
Audio Damage: EOS reverb
ArtsAcoustic: Reverb great sounding and one of the best!
Valhalla DSP: ValhallaROOM this is one of the best reverbs!
EvilDragon! how is the Motu Mach Five3 compared to Kontakt? It looks easier to work with=better GUI in my taste and the synth engine with real Granular synthesis. I have tried Kontakt granular synthesis and it is not so good compared to Mach Five3. Is the sound warmer on Mach Five3?
Synths:
DCAM Synth Quad
Massive
Sylenth
Arturia Oberheim SEM V
TAL Noisemaker
Some stuff in logic as well
Effects:

A lot of airwindows stuff
