Electronic Music of Former Yugoslavia

Thought some of you might be interested in this article. Being born and raised in Belgrade, it has a special significance to me. Nice read and interesting tunes for those that haven't heard some of this stuff. And yes, plenty of gear porn in some of those videos.

Nice reading, thanks for the link. Didn't know about some of the tracks from the article. Brings back some memories but not a lot of them, to be honest ...

Yes, some very nice music there, especially if you think how hard it was to import high-tech equipment like synthesizers at that time.

And it is simply impossible to forget some of those themes, like that "Dnevnik 2" intro, for example ...

Pozdrav iz Zagreba ;-)

that must have been a nightmare! i have a friend, goran, who was kind enough to give me his crumar ds 2 that he had in the early 80's. along with it came all of the documentation and complete travelogue and border issues and .... and finally it somehow made it to belgrade.

oho ... znaci ima nas! ;-)

I like the punk and New-Wave stuff more. There must have been a thriving scene kind of like the UK.

fantastic links, both the YT stuff and the Dancing under socialism article.

this one is my favorite,,, read somewhere it was made entirely on OBXA and minimoog in 1982.. tho i think i hear FVS too on chords. too big for Xa. he used those three the most at that era. mini solo at 5:18 is classic..

always liked how he was on par with the current electronic sound set by the fav german trio (schmoeling phase), and the frenchman , yet combined with ethnic flavor coming from these parts: present in melodic material, parallel thirds and woodwind style embelishments.

Laza Ristovski - Beyond The Horizon:

Laza with mini, ob-xa and four voice:

Pozdrav svima iz Zagreba

Idoli had some nice synth work. They appeared to use a Casio VL-1 and Roland SH-09.

For some reason Yugoslavian bands are exceedingly well documented on Wikipedia...
