Someone crammed a x0x in a 303-ish case?

Talk about opening yourself up for a world of hurt. (nonsense removed)

It has a gimmick thing though, called InstaDJ and they are presets. It won't be long until TT are given a cease & desist order from Roland.

Yeah, i don't understand the InstaDJ thing, seems rather cheeseball. Also, i would think any patents have long expired. WTF do Roland care? The only sales they're missing are due to their own ignorance.

wtf?!! weird this is getting sold without even a sound demo???
has anyone even heard of this company before?
if not anyone in london care to pay em a visit?

the specs are all over the place.. 24db 4 pole filter doesn't sound right
and why copy the exact 303 layout if you've got all these instaDJ features, arpeggio etc?!!

@acid hazard: i doubt those patents are expired or every company would be re-issuing 808/909/Juno/MS20s etc
even software emulators are careful not to resemble too hard (although rebirth was pretty damn similar)

A preset 303 for the new generation. No doubt this will get snapped up by ones who don't wish to pay the prices 303's command. This TT-303 sounds terrible, cases are nice though, only if TT made 303 replacement cases to replace the battered and worn out ones.

@ Xanax it's made by Technology Transplant, not this company in London, they are only a UK stockist.

That's not due to patents. (Miami Acidlab is an 808 in all but name, polysynths have their own problems, and modular is so popular that the original purpose of an MS20 is kind of gone.

Trademarks and copyright.

It gives 'm the permission to never make a 303 again, but infringe on the iconic image of one, and you're in trouble.

I think it sounds pretty close to a real 303...I didnt know it before ,but after the youtube videos im pretty impressed!

I'd like to hear a real acid techno bassline with a huge distorion on it, that way I could judge the sound better!( I also just heard it trouhg my macbook speakers)

cheers

@ Xanax: Street price in Paris is 660 euros.
You'll be able to demo one in Pigalle pretty soon.

yes it looks nice I think it is clever to copy the form factor as today it is part of the charm of the original (and the xoxbox, while sounding fantastic expecially with some added mods, is a bit "unstylish" in looks I have to admit - not that this would have stopped me buying it of course ;-))

That looks really cool and is a great idea.

I love the statement: "Humans may program musical patterns manually using traditional step entry with control over pitch"

I did?

A good point has been made though, Roland went after the D16 guys initially for their software looking too much like the original devices and this goes a bit farther then they did. You cant build a exact looking copy of something and change the name a little as sell it as your own. Especially if it is something as iconic as the 303

Agree.

...and if it sounds better than the xoxbox like some newly registered member suggested, then it is time to kick out all those orig tb s as well ;-)

I dont get the irony. I had my xoxbox next to a real 303 and i realise that my xoxbox' s filter does not sound like the real thing.from the youtube videos above this device sounds better to my ears.thats all.

sounds good to my ears, through these laptop speakers albeit, closer than any xoxbox i have heard, much smaller than a future retro revolution and sounds closer to me too, i cannot spend any more moneys this year on music stuff but i am very curious and want to listen again on some real speakers

the instadj thing does sound cheesy, i thought the fr revolution pattern randomizer knobs were kinda' cheeseball too but i have gotten neat results here and there out of it i must admit

The demo's sound pretty ok to me. Although I thought it sounded different in some demo's compared to say, the audio you get in the background on the website, which makes me a little wary.
Re: x0xb0xes. If it doesn't sound like a 303, then fix it. Or, accept the difference, because one 303 doesn't always sound the same as another either.

No doubt in my mind. They have been promising 303 cases for a while on their old website and the fact its called a TT-303? They already make the tact boards and pot sets and obviously have the capabilities to do knobs and button caps. I cant see any sane business person putting up the big money to get molds made for all this stuff, unless they already had that capability in house to do so. The fact this is a device that will obviously run afoul with the trademark ppl at Roland (happened to D16, at that was a softsynth) makes me REALLY question this is coming from a western source

What I am more interested in is who did the firmware development, they were not exactly the most technically astute crowd and had to send over their "tech" guy to the adafruit forums to get help loading bootloaders on to the chips (why TT boxes dont have bootloaders) so they are obviously in cahoots with someone to put this out.

*edit

If Roland sue them, it will soon become collector items.
I guess I should buy few of them now and flip them for the price of Devilfish's 6 months from now...
