Hey gr8ape without a doubt a workhorse machine. It is awesome and for sure worth every cent and more.
I love it and wonder why I did not purchase years ago my friend.
In terms of midi I only sync it to my daw and record. I sequence all my beats in the machine then route the individual outputs and record.

The two I've had the most fun with would probaby be the Tempest and Korg Electribe ER-1. But that might be because I have way more fun making crazy sound sequences with them to re-sample than the actual beats for my tracks.. Definitely not my go-to for drum sounds, but still my favorite drum machines. Not a huge fan of the Roland line actually.. Their sound is a little boring. Heard it on 1000 tracks already, and its so easy to ID.

BOSS DR-110: i love the sound not quite a 606 not quite an 808, ive been wanting to mod it out with knobs.
BOSS DR-660: Squarepusher!
Roland TR-505: not as a drum machine but as a portable midi sequencer that runs on batteries
AKAI MPC 500: fast and easy sketch pad, love the sequencer and workflow sampling is a bonus.
Wish i had a Yamaha RY-30 i hear great things are possible!
Had a ZOOM RT-234 super easy, descent samples.

the machinedrum can be bread n butt errr
or as crazy as you want it to be, i would always combine it, kinda normal bass and snare, then everything around it going nuts,
i really want to get a new one, maybe with uw, maybe not, i miss it, but the octatrack handles a lot of its duties for me, but its not as fun for drums as the md, it has other advantages though,
my fav are the ones i use, so jomox m base, vermona, love my synare as well

bought my first drum machine back in 1981 that was a boss dr (doctor rhythm) 55
so favourites i've owned over the years?
roland tr606
yamaha rx11
yamaha rx5
yamaha ry30
korg ddd1
alesis sr16
and i still have yamaha rx5 and korg ddd1
i still like the RX5...it was a monster of a machine back in the mid 80's that cost me nearly £1000 back then and i bought 4 sound carts for it too....only have the pack in cart now.
also really like the sound of the sr16 one of my projects in the late 80's early 90's: keys are sy77 http://f9render.com/cresshead_music/let_me_up_3.mp3

He is a funny man.......nearly 60 and he just walks in to the garage on lockdown and sits there looking at this gear. No one is allowed in, and I mean no one!
I hope he will pass on this gear to me then I will take all the photos and fill up GS threads.
Anyways thanks for all the replies like to hear from you folks here |

monotribe was cool, i got it when it first came out, no midi add ons, i might of kept it id it had, prolly not though, i traded it for the jomoc mbase 01,,, fat punchy kick, ans a decent bass synth as well,

Pearl Syncussion. While not a drum machine per se, it is an incredibly varied brain, that can do all kinds of stuff. Love it.
DR55 - Great for plinky plonky sounds. Love the snare.
808 - No need of a reason why.

yeah, happy birthday Mr. Techno! Slowly going towards that magic number 4 now as well (gear always keeps us fresh though haha)!!
My two favorites are the 909 and the machinedrum. Have a guilty pleasure for the 606 because of the cute form factor and I love the cheesy hats and wolly kick. I think I had about three in total over the years haha.
I thought that the 808 would be my favorite (not that it is bad) but ever since I got the 909 there is no doubt in my world.

I've had a few Drum Machines over the years:
Yamaha RX21 ( )
Boss DR-55
Boss DR-110
Roland TR626
Roland R8
Roland TR707
Roland TR606
Korg DDD-1
Korg ER-1
..but I now mainly use software and sounds from my synths. Recently sold DDD-1 & 707, but couldn't bring myself to sell 606. That is my all time favourite drum machine.
Wouldn't mind picking up a Minipops if one ever crosses my path at a decent price.

TR808 or Roland R8 (pref MKII)
The R8 has the most amazing sequencer. You can create amazing stuff with it and it has a solid sound. Really punches.
No need to explain why an 808 is nice..
The 606 is very funky too

For me -
TR-909
TR-808
TR-606 (more industrial sounding, some say the 606 is the 808's little brother, but the two are quite different from each other really)
Elektron Machinedrum UW+ MkII (because it's 128 MD UW's rolled into one)

I have a few drum machines and i love them all:
Yamaha ED10 - Analogue Drum Synthesizer, it's a pad with synth knobs basically
Mattel Synsonics - Beautiful Naive bursts of white noise
Yamaha DD10 - Lovely LOFI midi PCM machine, neat sequencer.
Yamaha DD6 - Which is circuit bent and can turn solid beats into cacophonic bursts of noise, crazy arpeggiated melodies or anything in between
Maybe i'll get an RX to go with my DX soon, would also love a Roland R8.

Today I turned 36 and not much has changed except I own a little more gear now ha ha.
The 808 was my favorite for years, and then the 909 then back to the 808 and now back to the 909. It would be very hard for me to say which would one would I rather between the 2, I am not even sure I could answer that question. They are both special machines.

I think you got a nice list and when it comes to the types of genres you work on, I would say you have your basis covered really well. |

MASCHINE
ROLAND TR 707
NOVATION DRUMSTATION
KORG MONOTRIBE
AND JOMOX XBASE 09 ... this is the one i like the most because of the sounds (the more i use it ; the more happy of buying this one because of the ease of use and the fact that to me it s more than a 909 clone . also paid 350 euros for it . we know that 909 is 1800 euros .... )
SO JOMOX + 707 makes me happy ...
i d like a 606 but i might be considering a boss dr 110 ... what u guys think on those two ones ... i mean in a finished mix ....
PEACE
