Starstruck by dream synth - Kawai K5000W

I have a chance at a Kawai K5000W for 500 bucks, firm. It is in very good shape. It has only a power cord, no disks or manual. I tested the 'board, and it works perfectly and sounds fantastic !

This has been my dream synth for a while. So I can't objectively judge if this is a good deal. Fellow slutz, help me please !

Get it. Too bad it's not K5000S (additional knobs), but still worth it. Very good price.

Grab it. at that price you can always sell it if you have second thoughts...I want one of those but I already have too much stuff.

It is not a bad deal but it is not a great deal either. I paid $500 for a K5000S this year and it was in perfect shape. I felt pretty lucky. I also just recently increased the patch memory on it which has greatly improved it's useability.

eBay has a K5000S for sale with a BIN price of $500 and a starting bid of $400. Not mint but decent.

Whatever you decide it really is a great synth.

You won't be able to get your money back in full if you don't like it at that price.

Thanks for the info, guys. I've seen the 5000S for sale. The programmable arp and knobby interface are really cool. However, I want the 40-track sequencer, drumkits, GM bread-and-butter sounds, and increased polyphony of the workstation.

I may get a midi knob box for easier access to some parameters. It sure as Hell won't a Kawai original; those rare birds cost almost as much as the board !

Do you mean that I won't be able to resell it at that price if I get buyer's remorse ?

I saw that one. It's part of an estate sale, and sold "as-is". This does not give me comfort.

They are also charging 60 bucks to ship the thing. So the total would be at least USD 460 - assuming no other bids. It's USD 560 if I want it now.

I'd love to know where I can find a K5000W for less than 500 bucks - without forfeiting the right to return it if broken.

Just buy it. You're thinking too hard. Its a safe buy, within a decent price range, and exactly what you want.

Who cares about resale? You know you want it, don't let stamp collector mentality influence anything you know you want.

And is it worth hours of your time searching around for months to perhaps save $100 on an exceptional deal, when you could be having fun with it next week? No.

So buy.

100% agree with this. When I see something that I want that I have had my eye on within a decent price range that is in good condition then I just buy it. It has never been the wrong decision to this point. You are definitely not getting one for less than $400 in any kind of decent condition so if you are confident of what you are buying for $500 it should definitely be worth buying.

I don't think you should ever buy an instrument with resale value as a primary element of the purchase decision. Others may differ.

@ newguy1 + kspiegel...

Thanks for the perspective. True...buying now would replace the stress of looking for a better deal with actually playing my dream synth.

I'm not concerned about resale value. Just wanted to know what sammytaters meant by his response. Besides, I'm not a collector - not much of a musician, either. I'm simply a hobbyist and a synth geek.
