Polysynth on Weather Report's "Brown Street"

Hey guys,

Does anybody know which synth was used for the main poly line on this song? Sounds to me like a Prophet 5 (the way it responds to his touch), but Zawinul generally specified when he used a Prophet at this point in his career. So maybe the FVS? Regardless, I really love it. Feel like I'm listening to an old N64 game in 1080p! Thanks guys!

It is specified on the vinyl album...who plays what on all the tracks.
Unfortunately I only have the "budget" CD here atm where it´s not listed.
Would say P5 too.

Thanks for reminding me what a F**KING GREAT record this is!
Jaco, Wayne, Peter and Joe...the fearsome foursome. Geniuses at work!!

Now I´m going to listen to "A Remark You Made" and weep.

"Responds to his touch"...not on a P5...no velocity, no AT, dude..

8:30 liner says "keyboards and (ARP) Quadra bass" on that track

If you look at some of the live videos from the time period you can see pretty much what he used at the time of 8:30.

Does this mean that it is only using the monophonic bass region of the Quadra for the bass? Anyway, the poly brass sounds like it's coming from a different keyboard.

With regards to the comment I made about a P5 responding to touch, I'm not talking about the keyboard's features (i.e aftertouch), more it's specific character. One of the things that is distinct about the P5 to me is its round yet snappy sounds, i.e. along the lines of 4:08 in the WP recording. You barely hear the notes that comprise that downward series of chords -- nevertheless, there is a wonderfully rich exhale with each stab, a sort of puffing texture (better example in Burning Down the House off of Stop Making Sense). I've never heard another synth do this -- maybe I am in this recording, so was wondering what it is.

If you can articulate that tone better, would love to hear it. It's my ideal snappy sound, and would love to own a synth that can make it (all of the polysynths I have played are not snappy enough -- I'm assuming it's the envelopes?).

Thanks guys. If anyone has more insights into what synth that is, I would appreciate hearing them!

I do know that some of his signature brass sounds were made with the T8
It's basically a P5 w/ aftertouch and velocity, (optical sensing of velocity!)
Sequential Circuits Prophet T8 | Vintage Synth Explorer

I am 47 years old.
I have seen him play brass stabs on the T8,
but perhaps it's to early for the T8 when 8:30 was released in 1979.
The T8 was released in 1983. Could it be a Chroma or Xpander?

On the 8:30 tour the polyphonics were P5, four/eight-voice and "Quadra".

Chroma was released in 82 and Xpander in 84 IIRC.
He used those ones (and T8) later as seen here:
