Need advice for DAW and Keyboard set up please!

Dear Gerslutz

Please help! I want to get started making some kind of elctronic, funk, prog ambient rubbish. ALL I have at present is an electric bass and amp and a lap top.

So... I really want a decent DAW, thats very easy to use, for a noobie, I have used Ableton before, not sure I got the best out of it, is it good to begin on something like this? Is there something better?

I would also like a very good keyboard, preferable something with sounds, ie, not just a midi keyboard, but have no idea where to start, my budget could be about £1000, but I want to get this right, I know Nords are good, what about Roland combo, its got drawbars!, Or what about a workstation like new Korg chroma? or a Dave Smith P08? Jut really not sure how to precede, Of course l would love a vintage synth or even moden analog synth for funky bass synth, but also would like a poly for 70's strings sounds and etheral pads etc, so P08, but is this too much for a beginner, am I jumping in too deep?

So what do I get? Any advice would be most helpful and I hope that from the replies there will be a consesus as to waht would be a good starter package? I would also like to get some external effect s like boss space echo and perhaps a moogfooger etc,

My total budget would be no more that £1500, possible £1800 tops so know there;ll be compromises

so I need a decent DAW, keyboard with sounds that acts as master keyboard, good bass noises and sounds effects, can it be done!!??

Cheers in advance

This is one of the best DAWs for an incredible price:

REAPER | Audio Production Without Limits

You can download it for free. You should purchase a licence later. It's just $60 if:
-You are an individual, using REAPER only for personal use.
-You are an individual or business, using REAPER for commercial use, and the yearly gross revenue does not exceed USD $20,000.
-You are an educational or non-profit organization.

Reaper gets great reviews.

I'm on logic and have a roland FP-4 which keeps me more than happy. I dont use the keyboard sounds though (piano on it is great, one or two other gems but mostly GM rubbish).

There are huge advantages as a beginner to using sounds in the box.

I've since upgraded with more plugins, one or two outboard, but can still have a great session in logic alone. For dipping your toes in (i.e. for six months at least), a big fat daw and a basic midi keyboard (with nice touch if you're a pianist) is all you need (except to record bass into the laptop, where you'll need one or two other things as well....)
