Music Using Mostly Casio's Professional Synths?

someone started a thread asking:

"You have to choose three hardware synths of any kind, NOT modulars – self contained prefab synths.

These synths have to, between them, ‘do everything’. You are free to determine what ‘do everything’ means. You are never allowed any other synth ever again."

there was no mention of budget. ive always realized the great potential of the professional (and attractively priced) casio synths and thought, if i had to get just 3 synths *on a budget*, i could make some great music on just a casio cz-1, vz-1 and fz-1. and then i wondered if any casio fanatic out there's made music using just the 3 of these that we could all listen to. or even just mostly casio?

anyone?

thanks
mini

If you add the RZ-1 for some drums, I'm sure it could give some nice results, especially if it was possible to use some good effects processors on them...

who needs an rz1 when youve got a sampler that can be loaded up with rz1 samplers?

You need the RZ-1 to sample for making the rz-1 samples to sample in your other sampler.

Making music with just those three synths = great idea. I wish they were a little less noisy, though. With lots of overdubs and compression/limiting, that thing can become a problem fast, at least now that we're used to such squeaky clean recordings.

@projectwoofer I woulda posted it if you hadn't!

Got pointed to these a few days ago. I don't think the last one sounds like a moog, but I do think it sounds neat. Not sure if I just suck, but I can't do sounds like that on my FM synths.

Fantastic!

I have one. Who knows, maybe one day I'll switch it on and do something with it...

I agree, not much like a Moog, but those are definitely characteristic CZ sounds.

Have been thinking about making a song just with CZ-1000... maybe some day soon...

This is from a recent Vince Clarke thread.
Obviously a big fan of the 101.

I remember walking into a studio in 1986 and seeing a CZ-101 sitting on top of a Synclavier's keyboard. Pros loved the bass and four-part multi-timbrality for competitively cheap.

The RZ-1 is one of my fav drum machines for instant inspiration.

4x 0.2 second samples..

I set my iPod to random.. Spin the dial and sample into it. Sample roulette is what I call it.

"Slide and Push it" is all Casio CZ, except the drums. Some pretty distinct CZ sounds on it

Heh, thx for the idea! I started doing this with my SK-8. Very inspirational.

I want an RZ-1, I think the hardware is similar to the SK-5/8 though.
